I am a Gen Xer that has wanted chickens for quite some time but life has been a bit tumultuous so, managing one more thing was not something I thought I could do…until now.
I am the third generation to live on my land with about 80 acres of pollinator protected fields surrounding my house. We don’t have other livestock at my house currently but have had in the past. I live there with my two kids, who aren’t really kids anymore but are furthering their education/trade skills while living at home. We also have two dogs, both mastiff mixes and several cats.
My current flock is an assortment from Hoover’s Hatchery and purchased from the local Rural King. It includes (to the best of my knowledge but I’m a newbie so I might be wrong): buff Orpingtons, black cooper Marans, Welsummers, lavender Orpingtons, cream Legbars and eggers. I got all as day old chicks except the buffs, which were 4ish weeks old.
