Well…I wanted 3 so I bought 6 and then 15 more…all in a month. 2 died as chicks so I have 12 on order for spring. That makes sense, right?! I will have a total of 31, unless there are “extras” added to my chick order. I won’t complain if that is the case! I currently have Easter Eggers...
So…I don’t breed my chickens but I do use the Flockstar app to track egg production. There are other tabs too but I don’t know if they would track what you want. I’m kind of new to this chicken thing so my recommendation may be way off base!
I live close enough to the hatchery that I might be able to just ask for “leftovers” of the breeds I want when I have a broody. I might email abs ask if that is possible. I know they grow out some so maybe that would work. Lots to think about!
Thanks! This sounds like a solid plan. I’m thinking about ordering all day old now. Ugh…I’m just afraid I will get a bunch of roosters and don’t have a plan for them. Maybe being raised either under a broody or with us around all the time, they will be good spirited!
Is there a way to test? To know? I’ve had these chickens since last December. The 6 older ones came from Rural King so I don’t know if they were vaccinated but the 13 others were, I ordered them that way.
I am fine with quarantine. I need some guidance…how far apart? How long? I want to keep my existing flock healthy so I want to do it right. I currently only have one coop but we kept the current flock in my basement (well contained) until they were 8ish weeks so I can quarantine there if needed...
Thank you for responding! The chicks would be the same age…around 5 weeks. I would get the sexed breeds as day olds and order 5 week old pullets to be picked up 5 weeks later. Does that make sense? So at the 5 week mark, all 12 would be 5 weeks old but 6 would have been here for the growing...
Not ordering 55 (although…🤔) but 3 of the 55 Flowery breed. Planning on 3 of each breed so 12 total. I haven’t butchered yet so I worry to get cockerels. We butchered when I was young…I think I could if push came to shove but it isn’t my goal or preference at this time. Chicks will be vaccinated...
So, I wanted 3 chickens and ended up with 19 (you all understand this, right?!). They are now 9 and 11 months old and laying well. They are a mixed flock from Hoovers Hatchery with Welsummers, Easter Eggers, Crested Cream Legbars, Buff and Lavender Orpingtons and 2 that I don’t know the breed. I...
