I turned the top cover over and squish it down on the food for the first few weeks. Some will still stand on top to eat but it helps keep bedding out of it.
Even if you fed them 10 weeks to get them to size you will spend half as much money as you would on 22% for 6 weeks. Consider fermenting the mash. It is not that much of a hassle for the benefits received.

I know your birds free range and you are feeding fermented whole grains also. What would you guess the protein content is of the mixed grains you are feeding? (before any benefit from fermenting)

MMc"s notes that they are also known in the industry as Rainbow's and Dixie Rainbow's. Searching through the forum it looks like people have had mixed results as meat birds and at least one has hatched a second generation.
They have been compared to Freedom Rangers, but are suppose to breed...

Do meat birds such as the Cornish X or Red Rangers roost? I am looking at my options for a coop and didn't know if they will utilize a roost if available. I am thinking about a dozen of each of these breeds.
