Yes!! Sorry for the late reply :P
They are in fact d’uccles and they are absolutely marvelous birds! Out of the 10 breeds we’ve had so far, the d’uccles are absolutely the sweetest :) we are very happy!
Sure! Straight run is basically a grab bag in terms of sex - each bird is (should be) just as likely to be male as female.
What I might do if they start fighting is separate the males out of sight into their own flock. I’ve heard of that working. I’m lucky enough to have an extra coop and run...
Oh no, we are twins in unfortunateness! We are very attached to ours as well.
I can say I HAVE had 3 Roos at a time briefly, before we lost one. Then we had two for quite some time and they never fought. I’m skeptical about it working with any more than that. How much room will your guys have...
Well crud :/
Yeah this was the first time I ever got chicks from tractor supply, big mistake, should have stuck with my tried and true. Learned the breed after the first week, didn’t know that this breed only is available as straight run. Thanks for your feedback on the sex.
These were supposed to be sexed, all pullets but the combs are making me worried. I have 4 of this breed and three look more “rooster-y” while only one looks hen like to me. Thoughts?
The suspicious looking bird (two more look like this one):

And the less concerning bird...
So we are thinking d’uccle or booted bantams? The d’uccle are gorgeous I almost ordered a few this year anyway :P
I remember now that “bantams” were what was mixed in with them (and there were chicks with plain feet [and chipmunk pattern and coloring] in there so I and the sales guy presumed...
We got what we thought were 8 silkies to add to our flock this season.
I have my doubts about half of these birds though!
I was told that the smaller birds, the potential non-silkies had just arrived that day while the others were older, so keep that in mind for the size difference.
They...
My new batch of chicks are growing quickly - we use the electric contact brooder rather than a red light and I feel like the chicks grow up and feather quicker.
There are 11 young ones in this new batch and our main flock consists of 3 older hens out in the coop. They have meet through bars on...
Thank you!! That makes me feel more relaxed.
Two of the four (those two hatched 12 or so hours earlier than the others) are in the main brooder with the shipped chicks now :)
If we have never had Marek's on our land and any outside chicks and our existing flock were vaccinated, is Marek's...
We have 6 Marek's vaccinated hatchery chicks (3 days old) from My Pet Chicken.
We just hatched 3 of our own chicks here.
My question is - is there a risk to letting them mix, and if so, how grave a risk is it? I am planning on ordering Marek's vaccination and inoculating our home hatched...
Here are some pictures of her. I started with her grown up - I added her juvenile and baby pics at the end. It was really hard for me to look at them right now, but I wanted to have her pictures all together up here.
Here she is:
Here she is, all proud, grumpy dot, standing at attention...
