    White leghorn bantam or OEG

Between the option of leghorn and oegb, I would say it is an oegb. As already said, leghorns have white earlobes and this little guy clearly has red earlobes.

Quote: I'm not sure I agree with that. Silver penciled is the same color pattern as dark brahmas. As chicks, the males are quite distinct. Here is an adult silver penciled male rock: http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/CGP/Rocks/SilverPencilRockCkl07.JPEG Here are some dark brahma chicks...

Quote: Look pretty columbian cochin to me. Whichever one isn't a pure columbian was probably outcrossed to another variety, but who knows what color genes they could be hiding. Did you get them from a breeder or just as bantam chicks?

Looks like the first four older ones are girls and the last two are cockerels.

    friendliest breed

Quote: OK, now there's a pet chicken. Love it! Yes, hatchery stock seem to be more aggressive or timid and breeder stock seem to be more human oriented.

    friendliest breed

Mediterranian breeds tend to be flighty and have a reputation for not warming up to humans. Your mid/heavy breed loose feathered birds are going to be your best bet for being pets, but what it eventually comes down to is working with your birds and getting them used to you I've heard good...

Quote: I am working on splash mottleds and may be able to part with a few this fall. Thanks Cochincoop I already have a splash mottled project underway though...I'm just looking for plain old splash and black cochins to make some good blues. I appreciate it though.

Quote: Thanks It definitely pays off starting out with nice birds, that is for sure. Like the old addage goes, you pay in what you pay out. Your calicos are really coming along good though, I don't think it will be too long before you have some beautiful big butts of your own!

    Cochin Thread!!!

I posted a while back on here with some photos. Time to update, methinks. Keeping a few nice pullets and cockerels from last year and early this year to add to the breeding program. P.S, I am looking for bantie splash and black cochins that come from exhibition lines. I can't seem to find...

    Greenville OH Fancy Feather Show!

We're packing up and heading out tonight to get a head start for the Greenville OH show. I am extremely excited! Are any other BYCers going? What are you bringing? I'm bringing 8 of my cochins and am hoping to get some more there, preferrably of a variety other than mottled, haha.

Quote: Are you interested in showing them? They are very cute, but unfortunately don't fit into the exhibition range of type. The cockerel doesn't look too shabby, but I wouldn't use the two girls for breeding if you're trying to get birds to show. They do look like two lovely pets though

    Yoopers!

Calling all Yoopers! Ok, so there's a Michigan post....but what about us Yoopers? (the ones who really count ) How many 'above the bridge-ers' do we have here? What do you raise, chickens and non-chickens? I'm Sarah-I'm from Rock, MI, which is about four hours away from the bridge. I raise...

    Abdulsian rooster?

I've had a few hatchery andalusian roos. Very flightly, quick to try to escape boys as most mediterranean breeds are. They were pretty, though. I do not know whether or not birds of a higher quality would be more tame--I've noticed that when I purchase birds from hatcheries they tend to spook...
