New coop after storm. How do I get them to use it?

Looks like we are going to have a stormy weekend, so probably a good time to try lock them in. One of the younger ones put herself to bed in there last night though! I felt like I had won the Lottery

New coop after storm. How do I get them to use it?

Looks like that’s what I will have to do. I’m finding it interesting that the location of their old house seems to be what is drawing them back. I moved the tree branch to behind the foundations, now most of them are sleeping on the foundations, almost completely exposed. Makes me wonder if I...

New coop after storm. How do I get them to use it?

Hmm 3 weeks is definitely doable. Was your coop in the same Location as the last one? I’m wondering if that is part of why they keep going back the the foundations of the last one

New coop after storm. How do I get them to use it?

Oh no, we will be full winter if it takes a few months. I may have to bite the bullet this weekend and lock them in. Is there any other way to get them in without carrying them in or locking them? I had great success using a light to encourage a bunch of babies into the coop once, but they had...

New coop after storm. How do I get them to use it?

It has good ventilation and they really wouldn’t overheat in there, they just looked so pathetic when I checked on them and I felt mean, so I let them out. I decided to wait for the weather to cool. Will they eventually take to it if I keep putting them in there at night? I’ve only ever done...

New coop after storm. How do I get them to use it?

Only a week. I just thought they would have taken to it by now, especially the younger ones who have been sleeping in the wet grass.

    Does your rooster do this?

Aww all my boys have done this. They find a nice nest spot, scratch around, flatten it down and make a bunch of noise. They also sing the “I’ve laid an egg” song. I also love watching roosters and how they behave. They are fascinating animals.

New coop after storm. How do I get them to use it?

Hey everyone, a few weeks back we had an aggressive cyclone that caused severe flooding and damage to my run. Through some miracle, all but two of my chickens were saved, their two homes were completely destroyed. I had a great set up with a “main house” which also had their food and nesting...

    Wobbling head

So she had been in isolation for a week and I was starting to believe it was malnutrition. She is the smallest and possibly wasting getting to the food. The wobbly head thing did go away. However, my young son was holding her while I cleaned her cage and accidentally put her down. She very...

    Wobbling head

If this is Mareks, does anyone know how long it takes for the chicken to die? Is it fast or could it take weeks?

    Wobbling head

I just really hope this isn’t a sign of Mareks disease

    Wobbling head

Hey everyone, I have a 3.5 month old Silkie. Her growth has slowed right down and is now much smaller than her siblings. Most concerning though, is when she is sleeping she has a head wobble. Seems to be eating and drinking ok and mobility and movement when awake seems fine. All others in the...
