So my HeiHei seems to have a very intense urge to go up at roosting time, and apparently the one inside the coop is not nearly high enough:
Two nights in a row we found her on our roof when it was time to go in for the night!! Last night we left her there, and found her this morning in the...
My girls LOOOVE beetles!! Anything like that that finds itself in their yard, doesn't stand a chance. Yesterday they found a HUGE Pine Borer beetle and the frenzy that ensued was pretty hilarious! (one running off with it and the others trying to catch her/it!!)
It's just all the more protein...
My girls this morning, posing nicely in the coop doorway. Top to bottom is Maui, Moana, and HeiHei. Moana's comb is really starting to come in! If HeiHei has one is anybody's guess!!
Thank you for the reply and suggestions! I will likely supplement here soon; better to be on the safe side! As to the food, it is not actually that old, as I did not get the birds as newly-hatched chicks. They've been with me about 5-6 weeks now, and the bag will be done when I next fill the...
Found this thread by searching this subject; just wanted to ask a quick question -- my chickens are now 16 weeks old. Still on the starter crumble (that 25 lb bag goes a long way with just 3!) in the coop feeder. However they go outside daily into their yard, and it is all dirt (very dry...
I voted "cat" because we have four of them, but something I didn't see as an option was indoor/pet birds! We also have three parakeets in the house; they live in my son's room to stay separated from the felines.
When it's hot, I like to make "ice treats" for my girls...I have a shallow Corningware dish that I will fill with whatever fruit/veggies (cut up) I have on hand, fill partly with water, then freeze. When ready, I just put the whole dish out in their yard and now they have a cold, refreshing...
:welcome
I'm also new but so far it's a great place to be! Tell us about your flock! :pop I have three ladies right now: a Blue Andalusian, a Golden Polish, and a Black Australorp. Thirteen weeks old. Oh, and we live in southern CA.
These aren't the greatest pics (the girls don't like to pose for me! :p ) but here are my gals....
Left to right are Moana, HeiHei (coming right at me, she's very curious!), and Maui peeking out of the coop.
Hello fellow southern Californians! I'm new to the site as a whole and in my intro thread it was suggested I find my state. So, here I am! (you can find that intro here if you're interested!)
I'm in Pine Valley, VERY "SoCal" as we're only about 20 miles from the border (if that). And we're...
Hello everyone! Just joined so I'm just here to say a quick hi and introduce myself. :frow
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I've had chickens before, but not for a while. My first flock was a trio of Light Brahmas, when we lived in TX several years ago...
