Hy-Line Browns / General age to expect egg laying

Hello, I just obtained 22 Hy-Line Browns and I am wondering what some first-hand experience is on the length of time that they lay eggs. I am told that they are 80 weeks old right now, and from what I'm researching it seems like most egg farms rate them at 100 weeks for peak laying. Should I...

Can I separate the roost and the nest boxes?

Agreed! We got our birds from a local laying farm after their supplier came in an took the birds for harvest. We were told they had 12 or so birds and when they arrived there were 22 of them instead.

Is a rooster essential to your flock?

Hello. I currently have 22 hens that are free-range during the daylight hours. Should I add a rooster to the flock? What are the pros and cons of having/not having a rooster? Thank you!

I had 0 birds the day before that. So this sprung on a chicken coop/design and build within a week. They are in a temp...

Can I separate the roost and the nest boxes?

This may have been covered before, so forgive me. I am building a 16x8 covered coop/run that I plan to have at least a 4x8 roost/nest box area. My question is can I build two separate "roosts", one on each end of the house, and the chickens utilize the area for their intended purpose? Or do I...
