List of does and don’t s for chicken feeding.

Hey ya’ll, Been a while since I’ve been on here. The new farm and wedding has us slammed. We will be away from the farm for a week following the wedding and will have a couple friends staying in the camper to watch the farm while we are gone. I’m planning to make a list of do’s and don’ts for...

    Irritated skin from pecking.

Thanks for all the info everyone. I moved them into their new home the other day. They have a 11x12 covered area and are loving their dirt baths again. My one chicken is already looking better and I’ve treated their chicken tractor top to bottom and built a brand new chicken coop. Hopefully this...

    Irritated skin from pecking.

I actually have like 5 tires with dirt in them but didn’t think of putting them in a covered area. This rain has caused so many problems I’m running in so many directions. Unfortunately, people leave their animals all the time around here. We also took in 7 ducks that people just left, but we...

    Irritated skin from pecking.

Thanks everyone for the information. I’ll try to respond to as much as I can. I work at a fish house, so I provide them with crushed oyster shells pretty frequently and egg shells when we have the extras laying around. I’m not sure of her age. She was abandoned along with three other hens in...

    Irritated skin from pecking.

We feed them whole grains and seed. Meal worms and other scraps from our farm. (Corn, sunflower heads, cucumbers, etc) we have 8 chickens that have a 20x8 run and we cycle them through a chicken tractor that’s about 3x6. This chicken was in the tractor for 1 day when I noticed this. I thought...

    Irritated skin from pecking.

Came down to the coop today and noticed my hen standing on one foot. Upon closer inspection I noticed she has, what looks like, been getting pecked around the chest. I’ve had other hens that have gotten pecked but her skin looks more irritated than the others had. Their food and water routine...

Need things to occupy my time

I have checked YouTube. I was just seeing if there were any specific sites or videos people were a fan of.

Need things to occupy my time

Hey guys!! I got surgery yesterday on a hernia, so I’m stuck in bed for a few days with nothing to do. I figured what better time to brush up on some farm skills. Any websites, books, audio books, etc suggestions. I’m a big fan of woodworking, welding, construction and general farm work. Thanks!

    North Carolina

If you move to raleigh let me know. I lived there for about 4 years and my parents have been in a small town (holly springs) just outside raleigh for 14 years. A lot of those small towns (Cary, apex, holly springs and especially Fuquay Varina) allow chickens.

I’m not sure about hatcheries. We have several friends with farms that raise chicks, so we go that route for ours
