i feed them bird seed and cracked corn. In the first coop they were on the ground and it was pretty rough,,, i just built them a nice new coop off the ground with roosting boxes made out of 5 gallon buckets
I need to try that. I notice about once a week one of my pigeons dies. I believe I have seen green poop before? Although unlikely, I even wondered if maybe they were choking on the cracked corn.
I am getting 20 Courtinix quail in a few days. I have a 8ft x 8ft dog pen (on the ground). I was planning on getting some wheat straw to spread out. Is there anything else that I need? I have read where they do not like lofts. What is a good food to feed them? The place im getting them said they...
I picked up 5 young homers. Are they called squeakers? I got them from the previous owner (who did NOT fly them) 2 weeks ago. He recommended that I keep them in the coop 4 weeks before releasing them. My question is, what is the best way to introduce them out of the pen? I have a bob door and...
Good idea. I caught a possum in my other pen. My wife called to tell me. When i got home he was sleeping on the ground. Dont think he got any birds, but he got a .22 round to keep him asleep.
Thanks, I will get some pictures. What is the best way to get a hold of the pigeon, if say you were going to let one out to fly? Do you use a net? Don't know how else I would catch them without one.
I currently have 10 or so pigeons in coop made out of a converted dog kennel. I am going to be buying 5 homers this weekend and probably 5 or so more in the next few weeks. Realistically, what size coop should I make for these birds? Is there a general rule of thumb for how much space they need...
I am not sure what type of pigeons they are. I can take a picture of them if that may help? They are definitely not "young". I have had them for 4-5 months and they were full grown when I got them. I have a loft, but it could probably be improved. I need to add some bedding material and maybe...
I have about 10 pigeons I bought from someone about 4-5 months ago. She would let them fly around her yard during the day, etc and they would return to the coop. I have not let them out of the coop at my house yet, until one escaped this past weekend and he surprisingly came back and was walking...
Im planning on building a very basic coop to accomodate 3 hens. The enclosed picture is the basic idea im going to use. A few questions i have.
Do the chickens poop and all outside on the ground or will they go inside the house? Or both?
What should i put on the floor of the house?
What goes...
Im not really wanting to raise any chicks. Is it common to buy a young laying hen? If so what age should i be looking for? How long will a hen lay in her lifetime approx? Im guessing at least a few years.
Also if i have 3 hens, would it be ok if i went with 3 different breeds?
Say i had 2 hens...
