At this age, you will soon see your cockerels endlessly harassing and trying to mate with the pullets who are not at sexual maturity yet. The pullets will not be able to eat, drink, dust bathe or anything else without cockerels going after them. It will get ugly. This is the voice of experience...
In my (40-something years) of raising chickens, I have had some aggressive roosters and some not aggressive roosters. While I don’t believe any method of raising them will 100% guarantee a rooster that won’t go after you, I have had the best luck when I have not tried to make pets of them. I let...
Hello, Pond!
Happy 4th of July!!!
It’s hot here. We were in a heat advisory yesterday. Of course that’s the day that my mom’s AC went out. I did not know this until she came over at 7:30 in the evening. (I had the two local grandkids all day, so didn’t have a chance to call her.) She told me...
NOPE!!! Nope, nope, nope! Those boys would have been on their own! “Sorry, boys. You can’t come in until those things dry up and fall off your feet!” Leeches are one of the two creepy crawlies I can’t handle. Spiders are the other ones.
Hello Cafe’! It’s been a while. I’ve just started week 3 of cooking at the little Bible camp I’m a part of. This is our youngest week. We have 43 littles going into grades 2-5 and 26 staff members. Our season ends after this week.
I read the news about aart this evening. How sad! It hits hard...
Good evening! I spent much of my day getting ready for the chicks that the grandkids and their parents hatched. They’ve got 7/18 so far, with no more pips. The due date was yesterday.
Funny (to me) story - I was talking with a family friend about the eggs. She is a biologist/college professor...
Hello, Pond!
Smoky on my lily pad today. I wish Canada would quit setting itself on fire. I wanted to take my kayak out today, but the smoke is thick enough that it bothers my throat if I’m out for long. It’s been warm today as well. In the high 80’s.
Not much going on in my neck of the woods...
Hello Cafe’! Just popping in to say hi. We have the two local grandkids for the day.
We may or may not be getting chicks next week. The grandkids and their parents borrowed an incubator (because I have no idea where mine is), got some eggs from me and have been incubating for 18 days so far...
Good Morning, Cafe’!
Happy First Saturday of Summer Break! And what a peaceful morning it is! I was able to enjoy my morning caffeine fix out on the deck, just soaking in the sunshine and listening to the birds and watching the hummingbird at the feeder.
