I would only have one roost bar in the middle of the poop board, if having two different heights you are liable to have pooped on chickens, I would also run your roost and poopboard further, above your nest boxes, might as well make use of all available space and walls.
Just google Compost Bins for Sale there are all sorts out there to buy, not cheap so as Perris said enquire at your local council first. B&Q sell these for £32.00
I totally agree with the steppers being too far apart and too much of an incline. Watch your chickens walking and you will see the distance they will need to be apart. I have poop boards so all mine fly onto that then hop onto the roost. I also have vinyl on the floor and poop boards, a small...
Sorry for your loss of chickens. Screws would give an added layer of protection. Nails do not grip like screws, so are easier for predators to push the boards up. Maybe put a couple of boards crossways over the floor and screw them down, then one or two boards would not be able to be pushed up...
I would soak some cat food biscuits and give that to them daily. I have one in heavy moult at the moment. They need a lot more protein when moulting to be able to make the feathers. Cat biscuits are around 32% you cannot buy chicken feed that high.
I would only give them the treats and soaked cat biscuits at night before bed, that way they eat the pellets all day, with the treats at night they then have a full crop before bed. The cat food is around 32 per cent protein so quite a big jump on the layers pellets gives them a help with...
A quick and easy way to give them extra protein is to soak dried cat food and give it to them. A cup of dried should be enough for five hens. I cover it with warm water first thing in the morning before I go to work, then feed it to them in the evening when I come home. It helps with molting and...
Why change what is working for you? Your poop board is not that high that they will damage themselves landing, it's worked thus far but I would only have the one roost on it so that it's in the middle of the board. I went with a 2x4 length of wood flat side up. They all huddle together at night...
When we moved into the farmhouse where we are now in 2017 the place was overrun with rats, they weren't in the house but in all the sheds and outbuildings, they chewed through the wiring on my car so I couldn't park facing the wall to avoid the bad weather, when we pulled into the yard when...
Hmmm against what everyone is saying two of my original eight ranger (hybrid brown) hens would like to be picked up and cuddled. I used to free range them and whenever I went into the garden, to hang washing on the line, water plants, etc, they would both come up and want a cuddle. They did the...
I went to my local flooring shop and bought a piece of vinyl offcut cheap, put it on the floor with a sprinkling of straw also installed poop boards and put it on there as well. Only poop on the floor is as they walk in and out of the coop, so very little.
Well, one of my exchequers went broody so i thought I would give her 6 eggs to sit on, they were all white exchequer eggs, the rest of my hens lay brown eggs, turns out they were all duds so I removed them, she still insisted on sitting, so I gave her 6 brown eggs. One of the eggs was bad 3...
