Hi I need your help. Today since it’s fall I let my hens in the backyard completely free while I was picking up what’s left in the garden. They ate lots of stuff: vegetables, tomatoes, dirt, grapes, worms and lots of grass. Now I’m worried because I found some bright red diarrhea but I don’t now...
Hello, I was wondering if my rooster is in pain. He was born with bad crooked toes, I managed to fix them for the most part but one toe stayed crooked. It didn’t seem to bother him until this spring, when he turned 1 year old. He started to hop around like if he was limping. When the snow melted...
None of them hatched sadly... she didn’t kill them but she wasn’t a very good broody and she got off the nest way too often. But since she really did want chicks and she was still brooding on nothing, we slipped a little new born chick under her and she is happy now even though she has only one...
@RoostersAreAwesome Ok... i know it’s been a while since I started this thread but... new update on my weird little white chick... he (pretty sure it’s a boy now :hit) is now a month exactly and he is SO cool!
He’s got black spots, black and white stripes, some brown also... so I guess he’s not...
Yes I candled them halfway in the process and they were all developing. But then I checked again yesterday since they were not hatching and I can’t see anything, it’s pitch black... I don’t hear anything either... they were all layed the same day.
So we are at day 23... the hen didn’t eat any other eggs, but nothing yet, she still asks once or twice to go outside for a few minutes and gets back on them.
How long do I wait before I consider them dead 😭?
Sorry...
So, we washed them with a warm wet (no choice) cloth. We only took them when she got out to eat and wash herself so she didn’t see us take them. We cleaned out the nest, she cleaned herself a bit, and then we put them and her back in the nest....
crossing our fingers...
To be...
She is in a big section caged in so the other hens can’t get to her. She has plenty of water and food. We found most of the eggshells.
They eggs remaining? Clean them up? Just quickly with a bit of water?
it’s not impossible that they were thin.
Crossing my fingers.
I’ll keep you posted.
Thanks
Hi! So I have a hen that has gone broody for the first time. We put her in a separate cage with food and water, I think she was taking great care of her 5 eggs. Sometimes she would ask me to get out, go dust bath outside a bit and come back. We are at day 13. But today she broke two of them...
