Been reading on this thread, thank you all! New to chickens and trying to get educated. Was at my local feed mill, they told me a good choice is thier blend of grains, oats, corn and buckwheat. They said its approx 16% and it is ground fairly fine. Great ve some thus am and wow! My birds love...
With only 6 birds I'm hoping we don't get overrun with eggs but there are plenty of potential buyers in the area so we shouldn't get sick of them to soon :)
Emma, thank you, I'm feeling great and the doc has released me to go back to work so hoping to get that roof done by end of the week :)
It was about 3 months ago my wife went to the local market and saw eggs for $5/dozen. We eat quite a few eggs so it was a bit of a shock. Friends who have chickens talked us into it (they didn't have to talk to long) :)
I enjoyed building our coop and we are using the old hand built dog kennel...
Thank you Emma. Been reading a lot on here and y'all have an awesome site here.
Yes, we are getting oyster shells tomorrow. Was wondering about grit? Or will they get it naturally? I'm unsure as I can't find anything yet about grit??
The coop was my own design and I'm pleased with how it turned...
Here's mine, its total 4'x8' floor with 2'x2' nesting boxes on the ends. The center is 4' high with 1 roosting bar. The exit/entry door is 12"x12" and the ramp was built from scrap Lumber from another project. Total cost for this setup was aprox $200.
