The picture may be a bit deceiving. The pen is 13x10
The coop, It's advertised for 6-8 birds, I have 5. it's approx 5.5x 3.5, not counting the nesting boxes.
The nest boxes - there's 6 (3 per side) are 12.5" boxes which seems to be pretty standard.
That's 3.8 sq feet per bird inside + nesting...
I lost track of this thread... sorry. been working on being a farmer and carpenter. lol
How'd I do?
I ended up with a pen-style enclosure and a prefab coop. It has basic chicken wire.
I wrapped the bottom 2' with hardware cloth, and went out 2' with it in an L-shape, and then put...
Yeah, I will certainly make sure it all fits before purchasing.
And yes, i will install hardware cloth on the lower portions and skirt it as well for extra protection.
does anyone use anything like those glow in the dark eyes to deter anything?
So the current thought is that I AM going to get one of these pre-fab coops, and get one that is sized for 8+ (i have 5) so there's actually enough space inside AND get a fence enclosure/run something like this: and put the coop inside that area for extra security.
Since a lot of those...
I know, i'm not in it for the money. but i'm also not looking to invest $thousands of dollars to have a half dozen birds. There's a certain level of cost/benefit that needs to be taken into account.
Let me add one more requirement : It must pass the wife's req: "it needs to looks nice". I think that rules out every hoop & fabric type option out there.
I just got my first 5 chicks, about 3 weeks old now inside and growing fast. I need to get going on the outdoor plans.
I am not very handy and don't have time to build, so i'm looking for a pre-fab unit.
They all seem to have very poor reviews.
Does anyone know of a GOOD brand? i'm not...
