I lost 3 of my hens in the early hours of this morning, what killed your hens could have been the same animal, which is likely a mink. A fox would have likely tried to take them for food whereas minks kill chickens for little to no reason. I understand completely how you’re feeling, we’ve had...
hello, bridgetandthechicks here. Smudge’s passing wasn’t too long ago and we’ve had more deaths in the flock. This morning at around 2am I was woken up to the sound of the chickens making distressed noises. I rushed outside and saw what looked like a mink or a pine martin dash out of our coop...
Thank you for your consideration 💕. We buried Smudge in our garden an hour or so after his passing. He’s buried close to our coop. We don’t know many vets for our chickens as we haven’t had much complications with him and have only had one other death in the flock. This was a half-blind rooster...
Thank you and may your roo rest in peace as well 💕. My hens do seem to stay quite close to the coop though. Smudge was our only rooster. When we adopted our chickens almost 4 years ago, he was a chick. We got a hen (still alive and well) and 8 chicks. 5 of which ended up being roosters. We had...
Thanks for your consideration 💕
My dad was the one who discovered him and we buried him, but he had been lying in the coop. My hens seem to be okay this morning when I went to feed them. They are feisty hens so I’d say one of them would step up.
Smudge was a white sussex rooster.
unfortunately in the area I live in we don’t have many chickens for sale. The man we bought all of our chickens (except 2 which we bred) doesn’t own chickens and has sold them all. We aren’t honestly thinking about adopting a new rooster and just keeping our...
my gorgeous little rooster unfortunately died this morning suddenly and I’ve read about hens being very depressed when the rooster of the flock is gone. I want to know if I need to look out for any behaviours
On another note, I don’t know what killed my roo. He was very healthy and had no...
Hi, Lobzi. I have a blind rooster as well! You should keep a blind rooster separated from the flock because they will attack him. If you have a play-house or a spare shed of any sort, you could put him there. Just make sure that he has food, water, fresh hay and is cleaned out often!
Hello! I own six chickens. My hens are approaching the age of 6 months but they aren't laying. My rooster, Smudge, is trying to mate with a hen that isn't laying. But his mother is and he's not trying to mate with her! What does this mean?
