Well, their late switch into the hatcher didn't hurt them too, too badly. Quailsplosion in my hatcher overnight xD 32 eggs went into the hatcher two days ago and not all of them are out, but enough where I can't count them all yet xD
Edit: ended up pulling eggshells out because they kept...
Well, this dodo head just realized that two days ago was the third batch of courtnix quail eggs lockdown. Today is day 16 and I noticed 4-5 pips while frantically shifting them to the hatcher (which I had to turn back on and wait for it to warm up). I thought I had til Wednesday when quails...
Well, we are now six or seven weeks old, so I'm reposting.
These are the three I'm questioning still.
Meet "Grace" ...I hope.
Blue Jay ...I think
And who knows who. I'm thinking cockerel, but this one's comb points down whereas the other two wyandottes point up at the tip...
That stinks. I had that happen with some shipped eggs recently and only one made it to lockdown. Make sure you contact the seller and ask for them to reship egs or refund you. Take pictures before you toss the box or the broken eggs if at all possible.
If you have the incubator, you'd know in about five days if any were still viable and you wouldn't have to wonder, but I don't now if its worth it if you don't already have the bator.
Just ordered a new bator to replace one that spiked to 113 and 108 a couple days apart. Have a lot of duck eggs creating an egg carton wall in my hatcher around the button quail eggs, meat chicken egg (yes, singular), and the last two welsummer eggs ( one hatched last night!). By wednesday I'll...
My hatch is almost done and I didn't fry the eggs! :D

Well hello there. :) On another note. If you wake up to the power going out and freak out running around to get the generator going and three incubators plus pulling a bunch of hatched chicks out of the brooder and carting them downstairs at 1:40am before the temp gets too low...you might be...
No. No, no, no, no, no. Come back on power! Woke up to the last sputter of my fish tank filter and then silence and darkness and now the power is off with two incubators full of eggs D':
Edit: Got the generator going and everything is okay. Now the wait for the power to turn back on.
2 silkies, 4 Cornish bantams and one half out (zipped, just hasn't kicked out and is just laying in his shell resting). Out of the remaining 11, almost all eggs are pipped externally and the rest are pipped internally. Go figure my styrobator strikes again with a delayed hatch. The first batch...
Out of curiousity, what's the largest wire spacing for a mandarin? Does 2in by 4in cut it or 1in by 1in or does the enclosure have to be 1/2in by something? Not chicken wire, but honest to goodness hardware cloth meant for rabbit cages.
Just checked on my eggs. Two little Cornish bantams born! No more quails. No silkies. The EE's and most of the 17 remaining quail eggs ended up being late quitters. Two rotten quail eggs. One more DIS. Two corns are popping externally. The rest of the chickens are still moving in their shells...
They are soooo messy. My ten ducklings had to move outside into a bigger brooder with their waterers in bowls with rocks on the bottom so the chicks couldn't drown/sit in the water. They just flooded their pen everyday and it stunk everyday. I could've cleaned that out twice a day and it still...
Go little chickie! Fingers crossed for you and good luck with your silkies!
So fast, but right now they just wanna cuddle under my hand and their teddy bear "momma."
That's a beautiful coop and some beautiful chickens :) I just want to go sit in there and chill for a while :)
