My $.02, and ponderings:
If you follow the plans, 2 has best ventilation and natural light. This will help with consistent laying. 1 and 3 need windows on the sides. You could add vents, but it will still impact laying come fall/winter. Windows need to be predator proofed, as raccoons will pop...
I pic or two would be helpful. Be aware that your needing to predator proof at the same time as you ventilate. You've got more than enough ventilation. In winter you can put up heavy sheeting to keep wind out if needed. Light Tarps do well as they allow some air through. I met a breeder who...
Back before folks started to return and save cartons for me, I went and bought a salvage truck full of them. I've got THOUSANDS of brand new cartons in my garage, basement and attic... but mostly just use the returned ones. Lol.
Yes. Division of Food Safety. There are a lot of things you can be certified to do and sell. Ask them. First you want Small Egg Producer (less than 500 chickens when I got it), them cottage industry stuff like breads, egg salad, deviled eggs etc. Anything you might sell at a farmers market. It...
I am licensed to sell. You need Dept of Ag to do facility(kitchen) inspection to verify processing and that you know the rules(you CAN reuse cartons with exceptions), you have to clean the eggs(washing may be needed for dirt). Other conditions need to be met as well. They should either go over...
If your willing to take straightrun chicks when they hatch, I can get them. I'm near Great Northern Mall. I only do it on request, because I prefer standard breeds that lay better. The only one currently here is my 10 year olds pick, and at 6 weeks, I'm pretty sure it's a pullet.
Hi all!
Ain't this rain fun?
If anyone is interested, I just got my assorted chicks order from Sandhill. I am not keeping the white egg layers, so I have chicks available.
6 auburn Sumatra
3 buff Minorca
1 Buttercup
1 light gray Dorking
4 muffed Old English
Keep in mind they are straight run...
Hi. Welcome. I used to live in Chatham! I'm in a township near Great Northern Mall now. I've been playing with Marans since just after Bev and The others got them. I hope to set up my breeding hutch this year with a few from Cedar Crest and Sandhill. Best wishes!
:)
Welcome. If you don't have anything morally against it, I'd suggest the trapping and permanent removal of raccoons and foxes, as well as anything not yours, from your farm. I trap every year to try and keep the predator issue under control. It's a losing battle for sure, but I don't want to find...
I think it's a city thing. The Dept of Ag certs I have is for selling eggs and processing. Maybe I don't understand though? Oh, and Cuyahoga County never had a county ban on chickens. Different story cities did, and Cleveland still won't allow roosters in city limits...
