I'm such a paranoid Chicken mum. I have two Belgians and one just started dropping handfuls of feathers, not quite 1 year old, at the beginning of winter.
She immediately stopped laying, still makes the 'I want to lay an egg' noise, but never does. I wondered if it was because I had suddenly...
I'm sorry to hear she passed away. Mine is still laying eggs every day....she will just stand there and growl for no reason. Her ear is looking better, still a little crusty and she isn't being aggressive or broody....her appetite is good and she is active.
She usually follows her sister...
I know this was a couple of years ago now, but after the plug came out, did you notice she would growl at anything that made noise? I unplugged my bantams ear and she wont stop growling at trees and the creaking fence, all I can put it down to is being able to hear more.....
It's so funny you said that! I've noticed a couple of times now, when my black Belgian hen is sitting by the back screen door and hears me laugh she has copied me a couple of times and it took me off guard. It really sounded quite similar! lol.

Although, one of her ears is quite swollen and she shakes and scratches her head a bit and closes that one eye....I have tried looking for mites. As I have said, no rasping, or noises when she...
I'm pretty sure? Lol. There have been no rooster noises and seems too affectionate to be a boy. She purrs when I pat her and is the snuggliest one. If she is a he....how would I be able to tell? I have tried to look for 'lumps' around the vent area and can't see anything...
Hi. I have a 6 month old Belgian D'Uccle who gapes. Although she would do this very occasionally when she was a baby chick, she has started to gape more often now. There is no rasping, discharge from eyes, beak or nostrils, she runs, dances, eats and drinks and her sister has never had this...
I didn't realise that the little 'stamp dance' and hop dance that my 2 month old D'Uccle cross girl does when I get her our of her bed each morning is to show that she thinks I am the rooster. lol. It is SOOOOOOO cute. She waggles her tail, hops and stamps and then bows to me. After putting them...
