    Pecking Order Help

I'm getting the higher protein feed to see if that helps, too. Weirdly, now that I'm thinking about it....the changes in attitude follow my moving them to the Layena omega+ feed...hmmm & the scratch. Yep, hopefully that will help, too

Actually, one follow up question---should I reintroduce both isolated chickens at once, or should I do it one at a time?

    Pecking Order Help

Okay, yes, I'll try the pick no more lotion! I've got painless peeps on the way & I'll just keep adjusting as we go. Thanks for all the input!

    Pecking Order Help

Okay, I had to go back & do some actual measuring instead of estimating! The width of the coop & run are 4ft & the length from end of run to end of coop is 16ft (not counting the boxes on the end). The coop itself is 4 x 6 ft. & raised. I'm sure hoping that's enough room b/c it can't be reworked...

    Pecking Order Help

I tell ya what, I have really grown to love these little guys. Actually, I'm happy to say that I've got both birds separated in big dog cages now--each in their own time out. Big mama has already had an attitude adjustment, or so it appears. She's not biting at me & she's giving her sweet...

    Pecking Order Help

Well, I think the coop is about 4'x4' (not including the 3 nesting boxes). The coop is raised about 2feet & the run (walk in) is about 3ft x 12ft).

    Pecking Order Help

Thanks so much for this advice. I will get them a higher protein feed today! That's good to know that maybe they're cranky. I'll leave out the scratch, too & reintroduce later on. Lots to learn about these birds!

    Pecking Order Help

She was just always a little bigger than the others & the kids named her LOL. They're all roughly the same now (minus the feather loss :) They've all been very docile until recently. Big mama is even pecking at my kids & me. Before this, they all let you pick them up & come in and out of the run...

    Pecking Order Help

They've all been laying for about 6 weeks-ish now & it just started last week. When I removed Big Mama, I thought the pecking would stop. But, then Chickaletta started pecking the other two. So, I removed her also for the night. But, she was getting harshly pecked on by Big mama in the shared...

    Pecking Order Help

Yeah, their food is the Purina Layena+ layer feed. They have 2 feeders of that & always have it. I just throw out a little scratch every other day (a couple of handfuls). But would that have anything to do with the pecking issue?

    Pecking Order Help

Oh, okay. They seem to absolutely love the scratch. I hate to take it away from them, but I will. Any other solution? I do give them meal worms every once in a while, but those seem expensive. I also give them different veg scraps like lettuce, squash guts, etc.

    Pecking Order Help

I have a pretty big coop & walk in run, so I think the space isn't an issue. Until this happened the 2 feeders & 2 water options have been fine. But, I'm going to add 2 more & see if that helps. I also put in a few things to give them some other space options like an old cat house that was never...

    Pecking Order Help

I have 4 RIR that have been together since the summer & started laying in December. I get 2-3 eggs a day. I started noticing some bald patches on one chicken, then a second, then a third. I separated the only one without feathers missing (Big Mama). Then, I noticed the pecking from one of the...
