I noticed the underside of my barred rock was very red during trimming of her feathers around the vent. Any ideas why its so red? Its looks red an irritated from about her vent to lower stomach. Any cures?
I have 4 barred rocks, 2 RIR, and a Black Australorp. They all are supposed to be cold hardy, but what temp should the heat lamp in the coop be turned on. We live in Ohio and its supposed to be in the single digits tonight we a wind chill in the negatives. Just not sure what cold hardy means.
Are the first eggs normally smaller? My RIR laid her first egg today and it was a lot smaller than normal. The only other eggs I have gotten have been from chickens that have already been laying for a while and they all were normal sized.
I went outside to check on the girls and noticed RJ's comb looked injured. I think maybe there may have been a tussle with one of the other girls and she got RJ's comb. Should I be worried about infection? How do you treat a comb injury?
Is there certain things to look for that one can tell for sure? I did notice that if I pick up one of the other chickens I have been pecked by it. I read that roosters are protective of the flock.
I bought 2 chicks at Rural King and the guy said they were both Female Anconas. They both look very different from each other so I am starting to doubt they are both Anconas. One I think may even be a male. Take a look at the pictures and any input would be appreciated.
