My 4 girls start laying around 10am and are done by noon. I put golf balls in their nesting boxes before they started laying, and it actually worked! They have always laid in the boxes. I get 4 eggs a day! Below are pics of the first egg. It was small , but they are all large now.
I agree with teneyck farms, pirch space is very important. My coop is 3'x6' and I have 4 chickens. The run is 6'x8'. During winter they are confined to this. I actually wish it was a little bigger for my 4 chickens. I hope this helps.
I have 4 chickens in my coop. The enclosed section is 3x6 and the run section is 6x8. I wish I made the enclosed section bigger. You should be able to sustain around 10 comfortably, but that is just my opinion. I want my chickens to be happy.

I am brand new to this, but I have heard from some people they will lay better if provided heat. Have you heard that? Do you live in the city or county?
Got most of my coop done. First night my girls are outside in the coop. 8 weeks old. Two buff orps and two barred rocks. I put the heat lamp in since they have been indoors since I got them, and it is 20 degrees
