    My homemade incubator!

I learned the hard way too. :( I had two silkie eggs that died right before hatching because my first makeshift incubator was so unstable. That's why I really did my research to get it right this time!

    My homemade incubator!

I wanted to share the homemade still-air incubator I made recently. I used a $5 styrofoam cooler from Walmart, a $6 temp/humidity probe, a $1.50 light socket adapter, and the glass from a $1.00 garage sale picture frame. I also used an extension cord and a roll of duct tape that I already had...

Can anyone tell me breed and/or sex of these babies?

Thanks! It is always fun to see what "mystery bantam" chicks will turn out to look like.

Can anyone tell me breed and/or sex of these babies?

Thank you for your expertise! Do you know what color the two pullets are? The markings are interesting. Maybe "splash"?

Can anyone tell me breed and/or sex of these babies?

Can anyone tell me breed and/or sex of these babies?

have three one-month-old babies. I bought them as tiny little fuzzy butts advertised as "mixed bantams". Any ideas of the breeds/sex they might be? The beige one has big long feathers on its hocks and feet, and the others are clean-legged and white with splotchy black feathers mixed in. They are...

    Need hatching advice please!

I checked very early this morning and no movement in either egg. I made tiny holes and found both chicks fully formed but already dead. They looked fine peeking in, nobody was shrink wrapped or anything obvious. :( I took the chicks out and one had a deformed foot and the other had an...

    Need hatching advice please!

I am quite a novice at hatching eggs. A friend gave me two fertile bantam silkie eggs that I have kept sitting in an open top Tupperware container with a heat lamp on them. As I am not using an incubator, there is nothing regulating temp or humidity, but being in TX it is very humid both...

    Great chick development animation!

Just wanted to share this fascinating video. My kids loved it and it really helped them to understand what goes on inside a fertile egg:

Wow, that would be really cool! Wonder what they call that color pattern. "Splash", maybe?

    Baby Chick Pictures!!!!! POST!

I think this cute little guy has some pretty markings. Bought him from a group of chicks labeled, "mixed bantams." Can't wait to see what he/she looks like when older!
