Update! The strangest and most wonderful thing happened. We were going to get some heavy rain and I looked at the coop and decided that the roosts near the front weren't protected enough if it got windy, too. So I added a roost in a new place in the middle of the coop and it shook everything...
Only problem is, I only have one hen house/coop. I tried putting a dog kennel in the coop and put the two meanest birds in there but it was just too small to leave them there for too long. All three of the older girls are just plain nasty, lowering their heads and running at my new ones. No...
Oddly, the cochin is the nastiest one, even though she's smaller than the rocks. The giant is so gentle that even the little Auracan will pick on her some if they're alone.
I have 2 rocks and a cochin, all about 5 months old, hand raised. I adopted 2 handraised new pullets, an auracana and a giant, about 10 days younger than the others but all about the same size. This will be 3 weeks ago tomorrow and the "old" girls are still mean to the new ones. I tried the...
'splain to me linguist. This is interesting. What do you do with all these languages. Are you an interpreter? I'm really just curious as I can barely speak my own English language, sometimes, and struggle with Spanish. Do you teach? Do research?
Oh, for Pete's sake, I'm new here and feel sorta dumb because I haven't figured out how this works with people online. Please be patient with me and thanks!
I'm in the suburbs and not supposed to have ANY chickens, so I got three hens. Originally 4 but the little light brahma died by day 2. I mail ordered them, which I will NEVER do again! They all had pasty butt and I cleaned them up. The Cochin pooped a great big poop right away. The little...
They're definitely pin feathers. It looks, though, like all the fuzziness is gone from those feathers. Also, her legs look a little too pinkish around them. I don't ever see her plucking at them. I just don't know.
I'm new here and new to owning chickens. I have a couple of rocks and one white cochin pullet. I noticed this morning when I went out to feed them that her leg feathers look funny. I don't like the looks of them. Anyone know what this is and what I can do about it? Thanks for any suggestions.
Well, we got them in the mail and they all had dried poop on their little butts. I cleaned them off, even soaked their butts in warm water to soften it, and one of them pooped right away. A LOT! The other, only a little (the two others weren't so bad). The little brahma died during the...
