I am glad that she is doing better! She is a pretty bird, that's for sure!
I have never had to bring one of our chickens (only have had them for just over a year now) up until this week. Glad that you were able to find others going through something similar to give you advice. Glad your hen is doing fine. I am sure that I would be in awe as you were. All the best...
I am so sorry to hear of this!
Make sure that she eats and is hydrated.
I am picking up my hen from the vet this afternoon (our new puppy got ahold of her, see my thread in this sub forum as well) and after going over some of the care stuff she is recommending from what we went through, I...
I have never run across this before. Do you have a local vet for your critters? If so, have you tried to call or make an appointment for your hen to get looked at?
Wishing your hen the best and hopefully this isn't something that is recurring or wrong with her.
That is so sad to hear and that is what my worry is after the recovery of our beloved hen, Ollie, after our puppy got a hold of her earlier this week. Hope that things turn around for your older hen. Is there a way for you to build a smaller coop or separate a spot in your current coop to...
Thank you for your kind thoughts...
Our vet said that most of this looked cosmetic and that we had two options: To put her down or to try and save her (since mostly cosmetic) and that saving her would mean recovery time, separating her from from the rest of the flock for her recovery and...
oh no!
I am so saddened to hear of your losses. I hope that it is not anything that could harm the rest of your flock. I, too, would be crying as well. It is so hard when you have such a big heart for critters as they can't speak for themselves, nor care for themselves so it is just hard to...
After chatting with the vet (yesterday, 3/23/2016), we all thought that it was best for Ollie to spend another night at the vet as she was still in a lot of shock, on some pain management and didn't show much interest in food. We decided to drop in to check in on her yesterday and she really...
Tuesday (3/22/2016), we had a BIG scare at BurkeyFarm.
After looking through the newest Food & Wine and Cooking Light magazine at home, I used the ladies room. While I was using the restroom, Mike looked outside as it did seem quiet, wondering where Tux (our puppy) was. Yes, things were too...
We have two Ameraucana's out of our 6 hens - "Madonna" already laid her light green/light blue egg for the day (yesterday). "Ollie" has not laid her egg (yesterday). You can tell between the two as to who laid what egg because they both have very distinct shapes. The whiteish egg was from...
We only got 4 eggs yesterday. Our hens (we have 6) are starting to slow down with it getting darker earlier and with it starting to get cold.
Does anyone happen to know what would cause a hen to lay a different colored egg? In the photo, the almost whiteish colored egg (on top) was produced...
They are doing fantastic! Thank you for asking. So sorry for the delay in reply (months) but work has been hectic (tis the season). They will always be my babies but they are no longer babies anymore. We got our first eggs a week and a day ago (7/24/2015) from one of our Ameraucana's, Ollie...
