Chicken bum messy after she started laying

Yeah, we're having a heat wave, the stool is a little looser than normal, but nothing like diarrhea, i think that might be due to the watermelon I've been giving then to cool off. I'll give her a trim and keep an eye on her. Thanks!!

Chicken bum messy after she started laying

My Cuckoo Marans has recently started laying and her bum has been messy for about 4 days. It's not terrible, just some poo stuck in her back feathers. I've cleaned her up and checked her vent, and everything seems normal. She's eating, drinking, screaming at me, and running around like normal...

    Dominique or Cuckoo Marans?

Awesome! That's too funny, because I wanted a Marans, but they said they didn't have any so I chose from the 'Dominque' bin. Great, thank you!

    Dominique or Cuckoo Marans?

Also, the eggs look kind of like a welsummer's but I definitely don't have one!

    Dominique or Cuckoo Marans?

So this is Fafnir, and she was sold to me as a Dominique. However, I'm looking at her comb and she appears to have a single comb, not a rose comb. It's not terribly important since she's a lovely chicken either way, but we've started finding little med-dark brown speckled eggs (our first eggs...

Need advice for the best vines and plants for in a chicken run!

I'm very happy that your dog hasn't had an issue, but grapes are very toxic to dogs and a singular grape can and has killed dogs. I come from a family of vets and they've had to to deal with dogs that got into grapes, raisins, or sultanas. None of us keep those items in the house because of the...

Need advice for the best vines and plants for in a chicken run!

They are however VERY toxic to dogs. A single grape can kill a dog or cause kidney failure which is very expensive to treat. If you have dogs, DO NOT plant grape vines.

    Can someone double-check my work?

Ha! I do know about chicken maths (ask me about rat maths!). We have a small yard, so I think 4 is the most we can comfortably house. I figure if I build that size, it'll keep me from 'accidentally' bringing home more chicks. 🤣

    Can someone double-check my work?

Ah. That makes sense. I have rats and dogs, so I'm used to animals that need access to those things at all times. Thanks!

    Can someone double-check my work?

Fabulous. If I got a wall mounted waterer, would that be ok? I'm just concerned about them not having water overnight. That's what I thought about the nest box, I'll move it. Thank you, I will add joists. Good to know about the OSB, I will find something else! Thank you!

    Can someone double-check my work?

I have drawn up my coop plans, but want someone else who knows what they're doing to take a look at these. The plan is 4 chickens, coop will be 4'x4' with a 6x10 run and supervised free range time. I'd love hear thoughts or advice. Do I need to add any joists or corner supports? Also, very dumb...

    Hiya!

I'm a newbie in the chicken world, but we finally got our ducks in a row to get chickens. I'm beyond excited. :) I will be soaking up as much knowledge as I can get, so I'm so happy this site exists.
