Yeah I saw the posts but this is sporadic and it would seem if she was suffering from a staph infection or any infection that was untreated the symptoms (black smelly eggs) would persist.
I AM HAVING THE SAME ISSUE!!!!
No horses around our girls...
No Cotton meal feed... their corn feed is GMO and hasn't changed
Their feed has not changed except for the kitchen scraps they receive from us and a co-worker who gives us their scraps as well
This is NOT completely consistent we...
Critta, I LOVE the temperament and personality of my Golden Comet (red-sex link) and my Wyandotte (Silver more than golden laced) are sweet both are FANTASTIC layers, started on time/early and very regular.
I think the key to a friendly hen is involvement with the chicks, for good laying go...
I have a plastic bucket fitted with poultry nipples, I suppose they are aluminum, will the ACV be no good in this waterer? Also I need to get the organic ACV I see.
Critta, how is the coop? Our girls started laying a week or two ago so we quickly finish up the nest box and everything looks pretty great.
Any eggs yet?
Golf ball and a rounded rock worked for our ladies. After the first two eggs were randomly found in the run we finished up the neat box and they have figured it out :)
I've noticed the same thing, maybe it's some of my girls first times but the weak paper thin small eggs have been found under the roosting area and not in the box. All the other ladies. Have figured out the box after the first (or initially)!
I did! Here is the final product, some changes occurred but mostly with the roof framing which weren't completely sketched. It was a great learning process and we gained knowledge and tools along the way.
I was told (and it had proven true) that you will see their comb/wattle become a brighter truer RED when they are ready to lay. Maybe it's tied into puberty, my Golden Comet when from a pale ashy red to a brighter color
Hopefully this gives you some idea of when. Also my girls eggs are a dark...
I've read on the SLW thread that they lay cream colored smaller eggs. The dark one is rather larger for a first egg I think. Wouldn't a larger first egg mostly likely come from a genetically bred produced?
My GC is the sweetest friendliest of my bunch, and they are all pretty great. Can anyone tell me if this is her dark brown egg?
I think it may be her first. She's 4 1/2 months old.
Ladies ladies help me ID my eggs [/IMG]
The picture w/ 3 eggs is from our first find. I think they are from my Silver girl. The picture w/ 2 eggs is from today. I found these and think another lady has started laying. Are the lighter ones from my SLW?! I have a GLW, SLW, Golden comet (red sex...
