i live in northern ontario and very cold in winter, this is my first winter keeping my chickens, i could not find an electric waterer ANYWHERE so i made one with a cement block and a light bulb in it but i really like your idea of the utility aluminium deicer and rubber pan, so if i can find...
i have a 40 x 40 ft “free ranged” run, it is fences only to keep them in. I would like to know what can i put in this pen to keep them amused. Right now i have some stumps put together, a log and a tire filled with ashes. But what else could i put there for them to keep amused and happy
i have an area 30 feet x 30 feet for my 12 chickens to free range when i am around. I presently have it enclosed with snow fencing. Only to keep the chickens in..there is no netting on the top. I am going to put a new fence up as it is quite ugly looking so i will buy actual chicken fencing...
i have 12 layers. They all go into the Laying boxes every day except one lays on the coop floor. It is always a very small egg in comparison to the others. My floor is covered with lanoleum and than i put shavings on top. Is it necessary to have shavings on the floor now the weather is warmer...

I was think roost inside alittle to small. I have 12 feet of roost BUT they crisscross in the corners so i actually only have 10 feet of possible standing room. Some times i find one sleeping in the egg box and i have to cick her out. So i will try to add another roost somewhere in coop. I do...
Good idea about not making them so comfortable, i will let them out everyday and bring them in myself every nite until they learn. They all went in last nite except 2
I have 12 hens about 2 1\2 to 3 months old. I just started letting out in the run a few days ago. The first night i had to pick them up and throw them in tE coop and shut the gillotine door, the next night they all went in when dark, so i went and shut the hatch door for the night. Well tonight...
