    Breeding for size and color?

I keep reading about weight at 12 or 16 weeks for meat birds. Since i could not care less about weight at production age , how long would you suggest keeping a bird to get a good ideal of size and finished color?

    Breeding for size and color?

Minorcas.. Never thought about them. But looked at a few photos just now and saw comments about them being a taller breed. Will be looking into them. I am shooting more toward the Orpington Buff coloration so those Cochins look like an appropriate choice. If i tossed in a couple Jersey Giants...

    Breeding for size and color?

Just primarily overall size. Bigger heavier though i do not raise them for meat or eggs. I like big dogs, I have Saints, 8month old pups 107 and 134 pounds. Big cats, Mane Coon, at 25 pounds. Flemish giant rabbits. Toulouse geese. White Holland turkeys just because they are several inches...

    Breeding for size and color?

What would you suggest if any to increase the general size of the birds. My Buff Brahma/Orpington rooster is half again bigger than his Brahma dad, and i was wanting to see if i can better him for size.

How much should I charge for eggs

just go ask any small produce stand operator. You can always ask the county, but if you ask they usually try to sell you something. When i lived near Phoenix i had a small business and a county guy said i could not. I told him to give me the code so i could look it up. He had a cease letter sent...

Official BYC Poll: What Are You Doing to Protect Your Flock From Bird Flu (H5N1) Infection?

It took my birds about three days to get used to the noise the tarp on my temp coop makes in strong winds. An a little slope made it virtually water proof and easy to brace for rain.

Does anyone keep their chickens outdoors in a predator proofed run at night with an open air coop that's not locked?

I have a 10 by 20 foot coop with wire on 3 sides. Was supposed to be a short term temporary coop till i finished a new coop. But with so many out of my control events mucking up my plans it has been in use about 8 months.I did have to add a 4'x8' plywood panel behind the roost are to thwart the...

How much should I charge for eggs

I am fine being the local trendsetter.I had to raise my prices lately. Not sure if i am the first or not. Cartons went from 49 cents to 71 cents locally so i raised my price from fifty cents to a dollar a dozen. I do not want your dirty egg cartons brought back. If they are too lazy to come get...
