Hello,
My 5 month rirs started to lay eggs a month ago and I'm getting overwhelmed already by the number of eggs.
Was expecting to be here in a month or two considering the winter and everything.
But here I am with around 12 eggs a day. I spoke to somebody in a fancy market in Portsmouth but...
I tried giving my almost 3 week old chicks some spinach on a small plate and they acted like it was the most suspicious thing in the world. Didn't touch it so far
Updated ramp to roost bars. What do you think? Angle is definitely better and it's not wobbly. I have 2 wood pieces coming down from the roost bars with temporary screws ( long screws that just drop into a pre drilled hole so I can remove the whole thing for cleaning.
Chicks are now one week old. They all made it in one piece from Murray.
Been feeding then starter from scratch and peck and adding quick chick from Murray to their water. So far so good. They love the feed.I'm only a bit concerned that they growing pretty fast and the enclosure is getting...
Now for the run I've installed a waterer and 2 3inch pvc pipes for grit and oyster shell.I have dirt under the coop so they'll might be able to find grit there too but I thought it wouldn't hurt. Also under the coop they should be able to find places for dust bath. Also I've added 3 roost bars...
As a first try I've set it up going to the roost directly. The cleats are 1x2.
Sanded down to round them a bit.
The ramp is indeed kinda long and kinda close to the roost but I'll see
Tomorrow I'll install a 7x1 ft 3/4inch plywood with hinges so I can close the nest boxes till they'll actually...
Yeah that roost is in the "air" i want to use the deep litter method so I'll need some poop. 36 chicken in that space would had been too much without the board catching some.
To reach in the back I can remove the bars and maybe use a scoop with an extension or something :)
There are 13 inches from the pdz to the bottom of the roost bars and 11 inches between boards. They should be able to jump from the board up if I am to setup the ladder to go to the board but I was just afraid they'll step too much in the pdz.. maybe try to scratch it looking for goodies...
If...
Updates:
I've redone the roost bars. They are now at the same height and higher than the shelves. I've also added a tray under the roost. It's not gonna be removable instead I'll use sweet pdz and I'll scoop the poop once in a while.
Shelves where the buckets are are also covered with plywood...
