    Naked Neck/Turken Thread

The second one is bigger and has claimed rights to the girls in the coop. He's one mean looking guy! I do like how the white one has a completely bare neck though.

    Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Thanks! That's what I was hoping for - I started wondering with the feathers toward her back end looking a bit like saddle feathers but I'm still relatively new to the backyard chicken game and am far from an expert at identifying who's what around there.

    Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Hi Turken folks! I got these three in the same batch from a hatchery almost 20 weeks ago now, and am pretty sure the white and black ones are males but wasn't sure about this red one. I'm really hoping it's a female so I can start expanding my flock with other little turkens and some turken...

Marek's and Coccidiosis vaccine from Murray's

I have 16 5-week old chicks from Mc Murray now - they are 15 from the large meat bird variety pack plus the one free one. Not sure which one the free one is, but all of them are healthy and doing great (there is one who was blind in one eye from day one but still eats and drinks, etc. normally)...

    Bedding in brooder.

Regarding the wood shavings, I recently switched from shavings to the compressed wood pellets after noticing the shavings were really light and easily ended up in waterers and feeders when they'd scratch around, requiring me to go and clean those out every hour or two, sometimes even more...

BROODER thread! Post pics of your brooders!

I think a fridge without the back or door put on a tarp and bedding would work great. I wouldn't see why not! ... on a separate note I changed the pine shavings to the pellets and it's a lot less trips out there to change shavings-filled water and food. And I won't have to worry about them...

Age to Integrate Chicks To Existing Flock?

Far from being an expert here but I think I recently read somewhere that at 8 weeks is about the right age - the chicks will be big enough so they won't get beat up too bad when the new pecking order is established, but not so old or big they'll try to challenge the current pecking order too...

    Hello from kitsap washington :)

Hi Ducky and everyone... I'm currently raising my first chicks also in Kitsap, and was wondering how yours are doing since last posting in this thread, and also about the predators-- have you had problems with any predatory raccoons or anything?

BROODER thread! Post pics of your brooders!

Here's a brooder that was converted from an old dresser that wasn't wanted that I got for free. Took out the drawers and found there were thin particleboard dividers between each drawer, so I kept those as options in order to separate or section off parts of the brooder. The top is some hardware...
