    Separating mom and babies?

Thanks! My worry is that the garden is safe for bigger ducks, but not at all secure enough/set up for little guys. We have the brooder and plenty of bedding… but I just don’t think that they would make it for 6-8 weeks outdoors. And would feel terrible if something gets them.

    Separating mom and babies?

Hi all, our Buff just hatched a 2 ducklings yesterday. Our city doesn’t allow more than 4 hens, and we have a family lined up to take them now that they’re hatched… I’m wondering when would be least stressful for the new babies? We hatched the parents (a runner and the buff) from eggs last year...

    Hatched but still connected?

He made it through the night, and is up walking, drinking water and eating food under the brooder this morning. He’s fascinated by the older ducks (three week olds) that are housed next to him. thanks for all your quick responses and help yesterday!!

    Hatched but still connected?

Well, promising news - he’s still wiggling and warming up. The dried up lining held on for quite a while, but I finally decided it would be a bigger health risk to leave it on overnight. So I clamped it for a bit and then pulled from the sac end and it came right off, no bleeding, and put some...

    Hatched but still connected?

So he is currently warped in a clean, dry washcloth between myself and a one time use heat pouch. Making occasional peeps and a decent amount of chittering noises. I removed all the remaining shell, leaving the bit of lining attached. today was day 28, so in theory he was on target. He started...

    Hatched but still connected?

I peeled away a bit of the dry shell around the air cell so I could keep it moist. He internally pipped on Monday and pipped yesterday. He didn’t make a ton of progress by this morning so I only chipped off bits that weren’t attached to anything. No bleeding. I got the membrane a bit wet with...

    Hatched but still connected?

I just peeled the shell away and left the rest attached. He’s currently pocketed in a warm/dry towel and my skin - his exposed bits are covered. He’s cheeping and moving. I’m so heartbroken for this little one 😭

    Hatched but still connected?

So I peeled all the shell away and now he just has leathery lining attached. I’m not sure if I should cut the lining off so he doesn’t bleed ? Will this just fall away? I’ve got him wrapped in a damp, warm towel… should it just be dry and warm?

    Hatched but still connected?

I’m adding a closer photo, since he’s moved a bit, so you can see how leathery the lining is. I’m hoping this is sort of like a belly button… it dries up and then breaks off?

    Hatched but still connected?

Hi all, I’ve got a runner duck that hatched today, and it looks like the yolk sac has been absorbed… BUT the membrane still has blood vessels and is still connected to the duck. This is my first successful hatchling so I don’t know what I don’t know. Does this just take time? I plan to leave...

    Allergy to Duck Eggs?

Sounds similar to my son’s reactions to egg. He’s allergic to all varieties (though it’s just the whites). Have you never had a reaction to cooked or baked eggs before? Scrambled or pancakes? Cookies/cakes etc?

    Day 29 No Internal Pip
