    Is This Normal

Yep, completely normal. Especially in roosters with pale colored legs. I have a roo that has quite a bit of red on his feet.

    Sick Gander?

Just an update on Ben. He spent a few days in the Garage, got lots of treats and I dewormed him just in case. He's been back out with the rest of the flock and he seems a lot better. Much more active and responsive. It's still cold here but he's eating, drinking and acting more like himself now...

    Sick Gander?

Not since last summer. I don't see anything in his (or anyone else's) feces, and as strange as it sounds, I've checked with a decent magnifying glass (who knew I'd be using it for that? 🤣)

WHAT happened to her / his comb?! It looks dug out

No, it does look like something happened to the comb. I'm not sure what though. If it's not bleeding or irritated looking then I guess you just keep an eye on it and let it be. It will probably grow up just fine. Heck, I've had leghorn chicks peck at the toes of my Speckled Sussex chicks and...

    Sick Gander?

No, there's virtually no chance of him swallowing something he's not supposed to. He's in my large run and there's nothing that any of the birds could eat that would be toxic to them. Also, no, a vet isn't an option due to the fact that there are no vets anywhere near me that will see birds...

    Sick Gander?

I have a 2 year old American Buff Gander that just doesn't seem right to me. He's lost weight and seems less energetic (sleeping more than usual). I don't see him eat really, but he will eat a bit when I bring food right to him. He ate a bit of bok choy tonight, so that's good. He seems to be...

2 Geese and A Gander, Gander violently abuses one of the geese

Are you sure it's a goose he's chasing away and not a gander?

    Incubator Recommendations

The Nurture right 360 is excellent but might be bigger than you're looking for. Of course, you don't need to fill it. I just did my first hatch and it held temp and humidity perfectly. 100% hatch 😆

    Prolapsed duck penis

This evening I noticed that my 4 year old Call Drake had a bit of his penis dangling as he walked by me. I brought him into the house and noticed that what looked like hair was wrapped around the tip and it was fairly tight. I cut that off, gave him a nice bath and then tried to push it back in...

    Identify please

With the lighting it's hard to tell but if the coloring is a light brown/apricot color then I'd say an American Buff gander.

First timer, is my rooster doing doing his job?

I'm not sure how cold the eggs can get before incubating. If you bring them in the house you should probably try to keep them in a cooler part of the house. I was saving call duck eggs for a friend of mine to incubate and she told me to store them in an egg carton in a cool place (it was in the...

First timer, is my rooster doing doing his job?

The egg in the top picture looks fertile to me. See the white circle with the dot in the middle, AKA the "Bullseye"? That's a fertile egg. Once you know what you're looking for it's pretty easy.

Can Someone "Approve" My Brooder Plans?

I also misjudged the size of my first chick brooder. I had 22 chicks in a long rubbermaid bin that I thought would have lasted me a good while. Nope. Eventually they got too big, too bored, and they started picking on each other. And with 22 birds it happens pretty fast. Next I moved them to a...

Can Someone "Approve" My Brooder Plans?

Yes, I just about had a heart attack when I saw the first chick face down all sprawled out. I was sure it was dead, lol! I think you'll like the heat plate. I never was crazy about heat lamps so I was so happy when I found these. Now I can't imagine using anything else.

Can Someone "Approve" My Brooder Plans?

I most definitely recommend heat plates! In fact, I've never used anything else, and now I never would. I brooded my first batch of ducklings 2 years ago under heat plates and loved them. Since then I've brooded 3 batches of chickens and 2 more batches of ducklings. No problems at all and so...
