    Dear Chicken-Herder. I have just got a 4 day old ostrich egg and am wanting to incubate it. do you know all the ins and outs? im also in South Africa so would like to know temp, position of egg and humidity. I have a chicken egg incubator will this work? please help!

    I live in South Africa so we are cold at the moment. I was worrying that they have a flu of sorts. They look very well but the food I have is crushed quite alot and has a lot of mealie powder... maybe thats the problem?

    Thanx guys for the help! also want to check with you... my hens are about 7 months old and haven't laid a single egg yet. how long am I going to have to wait do you think? it is getting cold here in S.A! would that make a difference?

    My plan is to breed them on a small scale. They are a big breed, my roosters are enormous. I will post some pics as soon as I can. Very pretty too!! Thier meat is lovely and white so for our family id like to breed them as freerange and organic as I can. So I do need at least a rooster!

    Hey there, I have now raised three Austy roosters and six Austy hens and I would like to know how many of my roosters I should find homes for? I want to get another three hens, probably the Brahma hens cause I love their white and speckled feathers... any suggestions???

    well... I've given up on my Austy... she sat on her eggs for about 4 days after I put her and her nesting box in a coop as our Zulu rooster kept chasing her off and she seemed really happy with her new home. but she slowly started sitting on them less and less and is now back with her rooster...
