Broody Hen - still sitting on an empty nest for 4 weeks!

UPDATE: I put my girl in an elevated dog crate as a few of you suggested and let her out after 2 days! This worked, broke the cycle and she has stopped nesting! Thank you all for your advice - much appreciated! x

Thank you - I need to give this a go! I feel bad - but it is better for her health if I do this! Best wishes

Broody Hen - still sitting on an empty nest for 4 weeks!

I missed the opportunity as one of my hens had a chick about 5 weeks ago! But it was just the one. Thank you so much for the advice/pic etc! I will definitely give this a go as I can't find any other solution at the moment!

Broody Hen - still sitting on an empty nest for 4 weeks!

I haven’t - I heard about that (or putting a cold water bottle in her nest). I’ll give it a go thank you. X

Where are the hens laying their eggs?

Thank you. The ex-bats have been with me now for about a year and they are all settled in. I did wonder about my 5 year old that it was an age thing! I dust them with red mite powder in the warmer months too and have a red mite trap in my coop so that I can see if there are any. Everything...

Where are the hens laying their eggs?

I have three ex-battery hens who are about 2 years old and a five year old hand raised hen who have not laid an egg for at least a couple of months now! Or they are laying somewhere I cannot find! I have other hens and they are laying fine (albeit not always in the hen house, sometimes in the...

Broody Hen - still sitting on an empty nest for 4 weeks!

Any advice grateful received. I have a cream leg bar that showed some broodiness about 4 weeks or so ago. I moved all eggs, hoping this would break the cycle, however she continues to sit every day, all day on an empty nest! She comes out once a day for food etc, but goes straight back to her...

    Water Belly Help

Oh thank you - let's hope it is this - I can do something about it! She is hanging around the feeders most of the day - so fingers crossed this is what it is!

    Water Belly Help

Hi all, I have a cream legbar hen aged 1 year. I noticed she doesn't stray far from the coop, but seems happy enough with her own company. I also noticed she slightly waddled as she walked - her feet are a bit crooked so thought it may be that until I gave her a check and felt that her lower...

Can a dog and chickens safely coexist in a small backyard?

I have 3 dogs, 2 cats, 2 goats, a cockerel and 10 hens and all co-habit well together! (Well the goats may try and gently head butt a hen but equally the hens pinch food out of the goats mouth whilst they’re eating and hitch a ride on their backs!!). I first had rescue hens 10 years ago and my...

7 week old Chick and Mum - safety issues!

Thank you so much! That’s really nice of you to say. I’ve been watching them over the last few days - she keeps taking her to bed with the rest of the flock (usual night time squabbles on who gets the favourite roost etc), but they all settle down! I’ve noticed she has started to go back to...

7 week old Chick and Mum - safety issues!

Aww thank you so much for the kind words! The Mum is pretty determined to mingle again and they were back in there tonight on the perch below Alan Junior the Cockerel! I’ve raised the height of the feeders with layers in them and have another one for the chick with crumb and growers in -...
