Thank you for this. It was very helpful. I didn’t intend to “make my own feed” but I guess that’s what it seems like. This morning I just gave them their layer feed and they wanted no parts of it. I’m guessing it’s because I basically spoiled them by putting extras in it. I’m going to go out...
I'm feeding my girls layer pellets (16%) in a feeder that's out all day in their pen. They are not free range but they have a decent size space to dig in. I don't think they really eat that much of the pellets since I don't fill it that often. I also give them a pie pan full of crumbles mixed...
UPDATE::
Chicken coop is almost done!! Just put mulch down and put a pole up for a mesh cover so the hawks don’t get them. Just have to find something big enough to go over top. 🤔
I think it looks amazing and I am SO HAPPY with it. Just want to get done so I can get my girls!!!!

Tomorrow is fence day! I've been delayed because my father has been in the hospital/rehab so my off days have been with him so no work on the fence. The coop is finished though! I will post pictures. :)
I decided to go with the 4 foot fencing (possibly higher, depending on what I find at...
I'm planning on only 4 chickens. There's room for 2 - 3 nesting boxes in there. And I think the run will be 15 by 15 ... maybe bigger. I've got the space back there. There's more on the left side of the photo that's not shown. Probably another ten feet.
Thanks so much for the reply and...
Thank you!! I'm still on the fence (ha!) about how to do the run. I've gotten a lot of great advice here so I'm going to mull it over and figure out the best solution.
I will definitely share my progress! I'm excited to be here. Everyone is so nice and helpful. :)

Thanks so much for the advice! I may forgo the T posts and just do the 4x4 posts instead. Our tractor supply sells 6 foot fencing so I wouldn't have an issue with height. But you're right about the T posts. They may not be tall enough since you lose some height when you drive it into the...
I tried adding my location but couldn't figure it out. I will look again! :)
We don't have a stray dog problem. And I have a fenced in yard so there's no issue there! We do have stray cats though. So I'm worried about them jumping on the coop from the top of that ledge. :/
I have a whole roll...
I am in need of advice about a run. I want to use T posts and galvanized fencing. I want it to be high so I'm thinking 6-7 foot? I'm not overly concerned about predators on the ground (raccoons, opossums, etc) because we rarely see those in the city. My neighbors have had no issues with them...
Hello fellow chicken tenders!
I wanted to introduce myself. *waves* I'm Dahn (pronounced Dawn) and I live near Pittsburgh, PA. I have a husband, almost 3 year old daughter, a pup and two cats. I finally convinced my husband to get some chickens. Yay! I grew up raising chickens (one of my most...
