I've never had two of the same breed so this may just be the individuals.
Spurless bantam americana (hatchery unknown, from friends flock) does not have a nice sound, although I have heard worse esp when learning. I think his lungs are just not big enough for the loudness he is attempting so it...
So, I found this where a pekin managed to pass a glass marble after 24 hours.

Not a complete answer and it is just one event, but it is a good start.
Just curious, I know they swallow grit and it stays in the gizzard until it wears out. But what happens if they get too much grit in their food or swallow something small that isn't grindable (like a pencil eraser)? Will the gizzard let the unwanted "grit" pass through, and if so will it pass on...
If it isn't too much hassle can we get a location field next to the price field for buy-sell-trade threads/posts. It would make browsing the listings much easier as many posters don't put the location in the title or first line, as things are every post must be opened and read in full to [maybe]...
One of my three pekin males has a black(true black) spot of 2-3 feathers where the back meets the tail. He had the black spot right from hatching, now 6 months old full adult feathering still has the black spot.
A friend across town has one pekin(I didn't ask if male) in a flock of about 20...
Autumnhearth those symptoms sound very very similar to the symptoms I had during my outbreak, it is likely that the bird in question is now a lifelong carrier of mareks and other birds, especially those exposed when younger than a few months old, will catch it. I had a couple of birds that...
I just culled the remainder of my chickens(Booo!) so I can clean up and start fresh next spring. Ordering vaccinated chicks, moving the run and coop, and keeping wild birds away. (the only plausible source of MDV I can determine, nothing but fields all around and no chicken owner guests) and
I sprang for a subscription to an academic journal database. And it seems survival of the marek's virus in the dust is strongly tied to moisture; it stays infective for months to years when kept dry but only for a few weeks to months when moist(over 20% moisture in the infected litter or dust)...
There is now a vaccine for coccidosis, but medicated feed will kill the vaccine. Coccidosis outbreaks, if diagnosed early, can be treated with amprolium on a 5 day high-dose treatment, the continuous low dose treated feed is just a prevention but can lead to resistant strains and is generally...
My new rouens and khakis are using my chicken tractor until I build a real duck house. They can use the ramp with some cokesing but I had to put guard rails on it or they go flopping off on their sides like penguins, going both directions. Also the 3:1 slope seems to be as much as they can...
The author seems to understand vaccine basics but the writing style gives the impression and implication that viruses mutate to get around vaccines, so to clarify for all who may not know. Vaccines do not interact with diseases they interact only with the immune system, there is no direct...
I had an outbreak last year. In my research I found basically the same things you did, but I also found a few blurbs about males being slightly less susceptible than females. But I have found no hard research to back it and the reputable sources that mention it also say that it may just seem...
I'm near Tacoma,
I have a breeder blue orp cock(from back stag w blue hen) and a hatchery BO hen, the hen is mid to high level in the hen group(tighter feathered than a good orp), the blue hates her (and only her, he's a real dancer and treat finder for the other hens) almost like she is another...
It seems:
"The Austra White is cross between a Black Australorp and White Leghorns. It is a chicken developed for people who desire an abundance of white eggs and a calm hen to produce them."
