    The RIR and Barred Rock/Plymouth Rock are definately hens without a doubt.

    I think they are both hens... and they look like mixed breeds. The black one looks partly "Black Orpington" They should both lay brown eggs.

    I am having a hard time being able to tell if my Rhode Island Red chicken is a rooster or a hen.. can anyone help? It does have some darker feathers coming in on its neck/back and has a fairly defined comb and wattle, which makes me think it is a rooster. What are your thoughts??
