I was thinking that I would keep her/him separate until they are butchered if it makes it. We are not trying to extend their life at all. I would have preferred to have them finished a couple weeks ago but they just are not growing fast. We have weighed them and postponed twice.
Thank you! They seem to be a slower growing breed. I had to postpone our butcher date because they were not quite 5 lbs. I was surprised as I had expected them to finish much more quickly. This is our first time and we are keeping their food full. This one is definitely much smaller than the...
Hi there!
One of my poor meat birds really took a beating from his fellow chickens. I rescued her from the tractor and have him on my porch. Her head is very pecked up and I put some blu-kote on it. I have her drinking and eating, which is a good sign but I think she is probably in shock. I...
Hi there. I have 4 RIR chickens that are over a year old and I also have 4 Golden Comet chickens about 4 months old. They have all been integrated into the coop and are doing well together. The RIR's seem to try and be dominant and will chase the Comets a little but haven't attacked them...
Thank you for this! I just came to this site looking for this information. :) We have 5 Golden Comet chicks that are about 5 weeks old and we will want to put them with our year old RIRs. Today I gave the chicks some outside time in an old dog kennel and the RIR's were pretty vocal about it...
I didn't see anything crawling on them and we individually picked up and dusted each one of them (there are 10). They just look rather "plucked" on the fronts. At first I thought maybe it was just that one had been picked on by the others but then others started to have the same problem. They...
I am not sure if they have the same thing or different. From what I am reading it seems that my goats (and my dog previously) had burrowing mites. I did use some of their hay/straw from the barn in the chicken coop over the winter and am wondering if I inadvertently brought some to the...
Hi there - I came to ask a similar question. We bought our farm about 2 years ago so I have no idea what could be "leftover" from the previous owners. We had a terrible flea infestation in the house. Goodness knows what is in the barn. Anyway, we had a Great Pyrenees who developed a bald...
Hi there. I am not sure if I ever did an intro on here or not. I have been reading the community for a while. We moved into a new house (new state) over the summer and we bought a small farm with about 6 acres. After many years in a development, I was thrilled to be able to do a little...
Hi there! We are moving to Massachusetts in just under 2 weeks, near the Nashua NH border. We are very excited about the move and are going to be moving to a little farm where I can finally begin raising some chickens. I have been wanting to do it for years but our neighborhood here in PA is...
