Hi again - I use the A slot for the first 18 days - but then A and B for the lockdown stage. The only reason the humidity fluctuates so much is because the water gets low - or sometimes I overfill. So I have to always keep the water level correct - which means every 4 or 5 hours I have to add...
I'm just a hobby breeder. I live in Baja California Mexico - in the Wine Valley, and am co-owner of a vineyard and bed and breakfast - where I live. Our Coop is a feature of the property - folks who come to our small restaurant love seeing the chickens, and last year I decided to start...
I appreciate all the info - I never even thought of learning about CLB breeders and checking for a club. I shouldn't have said he was black - because he was very beautifully black and gray - but that was why I kept the more colorful rooster. Here's a picture of my previous Roo
Hi! Well the rooster and hen that are the parents of this rooster where purchased from Meyer Hatchery - and we keep our breeding hens and rooster in separate coops. So I'm pretty sure this is purebred. The white one was from the same hatch - same parents - and there were a variety of colors...
Thanks so much! I just hatched about 40 chicks - mostly Cream Legbars - a few Marans. I understand now. I was mostly looking at the head spot - not so much the markings. I kept my first couple hatches building my flock - and I didn't band the chicks when born and afterwards it was hard to...
I have this same question - some of my chicks aren't so easy to tell. If there is even a faint white spot on top, even if it has dark markings like a female on its back - is it still a male? I think these are all males - right?
It has been steady all the time - between 52-55. I don't remove the lid - I don't candle the eggs - I just leave them in and get rid of the ones that don't hatch at the end. But I have a really hard time with the NR 360 - keeping it in that range. Often it goes up to 60 - and then drops to 45...
I read a lot of reviews before buying my first incubator and I ended up getting the Nurture Right 360. I got good hatch rates, but I found it a real hassle having to continually add water to keep the humidity level right. I even would check it in the middle of the night when I got up to go to...
Hi - I have 8 gold laced Polish hens - and 2 rooster - and that is definitely a hen. Here is a picture of my rooster at 5 months old - the most recent picture I have. He is much taller and more gorgeous now. The roosters stand more upright than the hens.
I am a relatively new chicken owner - I got my chicks a year ago, and have been learning as I go. In January of this year most of my hens were molting and they basically stopped laying (we were getting 5 or 6 eggs a day from 32 hens). Everyone seemed to back to normal and now we are getting...
