Hi all, we've got a hen who has been broody for a couple of weeks now and we are thinking of sneaking a chick or two under her one night this weekend. (She is super nurturing and is in her own private 'chalet' under our main coop.) Any one have any experience doing this? My very limited online...
Hi Hallerlake,
I don't think that is the case in Shoreline. I sure wish it was!
I was recently informed by a not-so-friendly animal control officer, that as of October 31st any rooster in Shoreline is considered illegal. Unfortunately our neighbor reported us to the city (pretty sure he is...
Hi all!
Hoping for a Holiday miracle here.
Wondering if any of you might be looking for a handsome rooster to join your flock or know of someone who might be?! Roosters have recently been banned here in Shoreline (grumble) and one of ours has started crowing. He is just over 7 months old …...
Thank you everyone for your feedback! I am going to chalk up the lack of eggs to the change in weather, a possible molt-to-be, or diet issues. We feed our birds scratch and peck layer so I think they get oyster shell in that actually, and should be getting plenty of protein too. We don't...
Posted this late at night and am not sure anyone saw it. Anyone have any ideas for me?
Hi all,
Am super new to this whole chicken raising awesomeness, and thus have some beginner questions for all you experts!
1 - Our hens seem to have quite suddenly decreased their laying. We have six...
Ahh! Well that makes it all the more puzzling. Poor Scout (our ameraucana) is definitely the favorite of the rooster. We like to joke that he mounts her every half hour. She is our smallest hen and her eggs are pretty small too. Could that have something to do with it?
Thank you for the...
Hi all,
Am super new to this whole chicken raising awesomeness, and thus have some beginner questions for all you experts!
1 - Our hens seem to have quite suddenly decreased their laying. We have six hens and a rooster. Our birds are just shy of 9 months old and we tend to get anywhere...
I am super new to all of this as well, but just wanted to echo the sentiment that you will probably want to add more chickens in the nearer future than what you think right now.
We started with seven in September, thinking a couple might not make it and that five hens would be more than enough...
Oh my goodness, I can't handle the cuteness!
Really wish we didn't have to get rid of our rooster, would have loved to let a hen or two go broody and hatch some chicks. We did, however, collect some eggs and handed them off to a good friend with an incubator ... If all goes as planned, we...
Hahaha, I guess I should have taken the $75.
I'm brand new to chickens and am still learning!
Next time, I'll come here and ask around before I turn down what was apparently such a good deal.
Aww, thanks!
He really is very good looking.
Had him on Craigslist and someone came and offered me $75 for him. Was tempted to take it, but had a feeling they were going to fight him so I declined. I mean, who pays $75 for a rooster!?
Forgot to mention that I would totally also be willing...
Hi all,
Happy Mother's Day Everyone!
We have a 6+ month purebred cuckoo maran rooster that we need to find a new home for. Unfortunately, our next door neighbor doesn't appreciate his singing nearly as much as we do! We have raised him on scratch and peck feed, organic chicken scraps, and...
Aww, thank you all for the warm welcome!
I'd love to come to Monroe next weekend, but it is right before my finals so I'll probably be furiously studying. Stranger things have certainly happened though, and I do love a good potluck ... So maybe I will have to take a study break and stop by...
Hi all,
I posted in the new member forum, but thought I would also introduce myself here too as I am a Washingtonian (allbeit a fairly new Washingtonian).
Been enjoying poking around this site for some time and have loved all of the good information, awesome humor, and chicken camaraderie...
