    Cream Legbars

Help: I have a 13 week old crested creme legbar. We've had her since she was about 3 weeks. I am concerned because she hasn't gained any weight the past 3-4 weeks (we weigh them every Tuesday morning) My other breeds are growing 3-6 ounces a week. I know she is a smaller breed in general but is...

Help, was told these were sexed then told they weren't after I got home (EE)

Thanks for the feedback! My fears have been confirmed. However, yes, the positive is that I can take him back! This is a sad discovery but also shows that I am learning as we progress with our backyard chickens so I guess that is good. UGH.

Help, was told these were sexed then told they weren't after I got home (EE)

She said we could bring it back if it turns out to be a boy. Which I will likely do. Just not thrilled about another 2 hour round trip. I can wait until it gets older to make sure but then I am investing how much more money (not to mention getting attached) only to probably be proven wrong...

Help, was told these were sexed then told they weren't after I got home (EE)

My gut and little knowledge it telling me the same thing. It was freezing cold and raining when we got to the farm. The red comb and head shape are big indicators me. Even the exaggerated head bob and upright position the chick walks in. What makes you say cockerel?

Help, was told these were sexed then told they weren't after I got home (EE)

I picked this EE up yesterday. Was told they had been sexed and all were pullets. Was also told they are 12 weeks old (NO WAY!!!). When I got home I got a text saying she was really sorry, she thought all the chicks in the pen we got this one from had been sexed but that her husband informed her...

    Vent pecking

We have an 8 week old white leghorn that is still picking at my orphs feathers in her vent area. Despite increasing her protein and moving them outside (free range during the day with supervision) she is still doing it. We separated her (the aggressor) for several days to try to "reset" the...

Help, 5 week old chick pulling out other chicks feathers

Yes, I knew about grit. Thanks though, still have much to learn! :) I wondered about size of brooder as well. We kinda "adopted" the 4th bird so I hadnt planned on needing more room inside. It is also usually much warmer by now here so Inhad anticipated them moving outside right around now. I...

Help, 5 week old chick pulling out other chicks feathers

I will try the tuna. I know they LOVE it. I will give it a couple days and see if it helps. Glad to hear my instincts may be on the right track......

Help, 5 week old chick pulling out other chicks feathers

We have 4 chicks that are 5-6 weeks old. Today I noticed one of them (a white leghorn), who already seems to be the most dominant of them all, picking at feathers out of the chest of our creme legbar. Later she seems to be picking at feathers on the CL's vent area. I immediately panicked after...

Grandpa's Treadle feeder vs. chicken condo feeder

Yes, Grandpa's Feeders has a US distributer. I went ahead and ordered one today! Can't beat the 12 month guarantee. However, the chooketeria is a great deal - it runs $120 us dollars and that includes shipping! Might go that route if I ever need another.
