    all who are hatching quail

I have found that only the waterers work well with quail chicks until they are 5-7 days old because of their size and weakness. I raise ~1000 bobwhites a year and haven't had very good luck with anything else. I am using GQF brooders so I can hang the water in troughs outside once they are big...

    all who are hatching quail

I usually average about 80-85% hatch rate and then lose another 5-10% during the first week. I have about 400 bobs that are 5 weeks old after setting 500 eggs. My second hatch is just 3 weeks old and still have about 425 alive. I have found humidity to be important the last 2-4 days before they...

    all who are hatching quail

From all the research I can find the optimum incubation h umidityfor bobwhite quail is 50-60% to give enough volume loss to allow chick grow without dehydrating them. The humidity for the last 3-5 days needs to be ~70-75% to soften the shell for hatching. I use a GQF cabinet incubator and...

    all who are hatching quail

Just set 500 Northern Bobwhite quail eggs yesterday! Time to work on large brooding areas. Anyone ever used a battery of box brooders (GQF manufactured)?

    Quail brooding

Anyone ever used the round metal grain bins as brooding houses? I have a box brooder and a small pen in an outbuilding but need some more space for a larger hatch. I have two old steel grain bins that are clean and dry with concrete floors but would need to have electric ran to allow the use of...

    Brooder bedding

Looking for advice on the best bedding in my brooding pen. I have heard cut straw is better than wood chips. Any suggestions?

Water or no water in the incubator

I would recommend water pan, maybe with a sponge standing up in it if you have room. I think the best humidity is around 60-65%.

Greetings from small town Missouri. Looking for some advice on flight pen designs for quail and pheasant. I have seen the plans on Quail Ranch but not sure I want that much expense upfront. ? need for raised floor vs on the ground. Thanks.
