An update on my rooster. He is doing great and standing on his own a lot and is eating and drinking on his own too. He crowed at 3am - first time since this happened. He will have to remain in our basement for a while yet as our temps are below freezing outside. So far he doesn’t mind it but...
I’m trying to just put a few drops at the front of his beak and allowing him to do the rest. Same with the food. Maybe I’m giving too much at one time?
Starting to see some improvement but worries about some of the behavior I’m seeing. I am feeding him with a medicine dropper - watered down yogurt and oatmeal along with plain water and some electrolytes. He takes them fine but I hear a gurgling sound while feeding. Trying to not give too much...
I only have the human dosage and shave a very tiny bit from the edge as I know they can only have .02 and giving him water multiple times a day since he is unable to eat or drink on his own. We are doing everything we can for him with caution in hopes of him getting through this
We have venting at the roof and leave one side panel off for ventilation in the run and have windows open some in the coop. We will slowly get him adjusted to the temp difference. I do have 7.5 mg of meloxicam but not sure how much to give him.
Water and very little canned cat food. We will get some aspirin into him this evening and will try egg or tuna. It seems like it is hard for him to eat right now and I have to feed him
I can’t put him back into the coop till he can hold his head up. The others would likely pick on him if we did and he would never get better. He is in the basement where it is cooler at least.
I know, I feel horrible about this. How much aspirin? I have 81 mg here that I have to take daily. I also have Maloxicam that is for pain and inflammation.
Thank you for the information. We will continue to keep him indoors for a while till he is better and leave it alone. I will keep giving him water with a syringe and try a little corn mash later
I wish we would have noticed this sooner. He had some mild frostbite on the comb from a few years ago but this surprised me. None of our other birds have this going on, just him and I am hoping we can get him better. I have coated it with Neosporin a few times already.
We have been having some near 0 temps and our coops is mostly enclosed to the elements but last evening we noticed our rooster was on the roost and unable to hold his head up. His comb and waddle is swollen and very warm to the touch. The comb is also oozing some now. We moved him indoors to a...
