Hen with very pale comb for months

Ok So I double checked her vent and the bones and all signs point to her not laying. It's been cold here lately, sub 30deg in the mornings (well, that's cold for NC and the birds aren't used to it) and she's been standing with her head tucked under her wing like she's sleeping - but she's the...

Hen with very pale comb for months

Oh boy is my rooster in for a treat later! Lol I very much doubt she is laying but we did have a weird egg the other day - wrinkles and kind of flat on one side. I will double check her. Thank you!

Hen with very pale comb for months

Thanks! I did read this and she did have a particularly terrible molt, I just thought 6 months was an awfully long time for her to stop laying (especially when everyone else resumed). I will keep watching for odd behavior.

Hen with very pale comb for months

Hi all! I have an austrawhite hen, Rita (about 2 years old), that went into molt in late June/early July and hasn’t seemed to recover since. I thought this was an odd time to molt (we live in NC, USA), but sometimes the girls go through it early. I always expect them to get pale when they molt...

2mo old silkie and bantam chicks in 15-20degF weather

Thank you! Unfortunately we can’t get electricity out to the coop. Glad I didn’t pack up the brooder. Back inside they come, lol.

2mo old silkie and bantam chicks in 15-20degF weather

Hi all! We got a batch of chicks in Oct (due to a shipping incident they came way later than we had planned). Regardless, we have 7 lovely little bantam babies: D'Uccle, Olive Egger, Polish and 4 silkies. They're all fully feathered at this point, but they're in that weird, lanky teen phase. So...

Will a welsummer roo x game hen chicks have any sexing definitive traits?

Thank you! That makes so much sense. I kept looking at an online chicken genetics calculator and the one photo similar to him had that exact difference. I can’t be sure of the game hens genetics either, since we bought them out of a …well, rough situation for them (feathers picked one, ones gone...

Will a welsummer roo x game hen chicks have any sexing definitive traits?

Hi everyone! We had some chicks hatch about a month and an half ago. I must admit the science of genetics has always eluded me, so I’m wondering if someone versed in it can help (I read briefly about yellow leg color being recessive but it got incredibly complicated very quickly!). I know...

    Chick with injured knee/leg (red/purple?)

Good news everyone! I brought her in for about 5 days and nights. Gave her chick feed, watered down yolk and electrolytes. She’d stay inside most of the time with me at my desk (WFH) and I played chick noises for her all day. We’d take trips outside several times a day for her interact with her...

    Chick with injured knee/leg (red/purple?)

    1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.) Speckled Sussex, 3-4 days old, smaller than the others 2) What is the behavior, exactly. Limping favoring right leg. Uses were wings to balance herself, hobble along. Leg shakes a little...

Buff Orp pullet resting with butt high in the air - not developing well

Just circling back to this thread for anyone in the future reading: She was just a weird chicken. She grew into the biggest hen we have, is healthy, bossy, and broody. lol.

    RIP Sheba

Be mindful of the heat, y'all. My girl was too big & feathery to deal with the heat today. I'm so unbearably broken-hearted. She was the first chicken to ever lay us an egg, on the first of this year. She was very curious and sweet, and I always thought she'd make a good mom but never had the...

    Silkies - They’re simply SPECTACULAR!

Tagging on here from the contest page! My sweet roo Zumi (Montezuma). He's very docile, yet protective. He also really wants to be a dad or something, because I've caught him sitting on eggs multiple times now!

Ended Official BYC 2022 Summer Fair—Standard-Bred Chicken Show

@Rocky_Road_Poultry you have just about the sweetest looking silkies I've ever seen. Those girls are just cottonball perfection and that is a very handsome man!
