That's 100% my case, both gardening and chickens. First time I do both, and I'm having so much fun. I know it's a little bit risky doing both things at the same time without having a clue of what I'm doing, but everything is going good so far, knock on wood 🙂
Can you share some of that...
I know, I know. As I said, I'm not worried or trying to force them to eat, they're very well fed. I'm just curious about it. 🙂
Today I offered them a slice of cheese, as @Perris suggested. This time they were a little bit more interested, and even ate a couple of small bits. But apparently they...
I've tried to give a lot of different fresh vegetables to my chickens (lettuce, cabbage, peppers, apples, tomatoes...). They peck it out of curiosity, but then they ignore it completely.
I'm not worried at all, because they have good quality chicken feed, which they love, and they spend their...
That's a great idea! They have a lot of space, but the soil itself is quite homogeneous and hard, so they can peck around, but not really dig. Maybe that's why they're so interested on the pots.
I'll definitely give the mulch pile a try, thank you!!
I've had my hens for a month and a half now. They have setted very nicely, and are happy as a clam. Recently they even started climbing on me when I sit to watch them do their thing, which is quite funny.
But there's something that is driving me crazy. They have almost 2.000 square meters to...
Sure! Here you go:
I don't think there's a lack of ventilation. There are two openings of 100x25cm/40"x8", about 150cm/60" high, and there's not a hint of smell when I open the door in the morning.
The roost is about 50cm/20" hight, and of course they don't care for it at all (yet, I hope)...
Hello again!
I introduced myself a couple of days ago in this topic. I have four chickens, about 3/4 months old, that I got a week ago.
Meet Octavia, Ursula, Margaret and Connie:
They're starting to slowly get out of the coop during the day. They still don't go more than a couple meters...
I live in the mountains near Madrid, and it's colder here than in other places in Spain. It's not super harsh, though, so water freezing is not really an issue. In winter we can get to -5/-6°C at night, but during daytime we are usually around 0°C, give or take.
It's not too hot in summer...
Wow, I wasn't expecting so many useful answers this fast! This is an awesome forum 😄
I think I have a more clear picture. I'll try not having water in the coop, at least for a few days, and put some fruit and veggies instead. I'll also keep them locked up for as few hours as possible.
If I see...
I need to open myself, I don't have an automatic door. Maybe in the future, but I already spent too much on the coop, feeders, food, bedding... Too much expense at once for now 🙂
That's great! How do you keep them from spilling the water all over the bedding?
I'll look into the nipple waterer, that could work (if they are smart enough to learn how to use them! 😄)
In the meantime I'll put a bowl with some juicy veggies and fruits in the coop during nighttime. Thank you for the ideas!
It's not too cold, it's hardly freezing these days. -1/-2°C...
Hey folks! This is my first message in this forum. I just got my first 4 hens, and I don't know anything about chicken care yet, but I'm super excited about it 🙂
My chickens have only been here for 3 days, so they barely get out of the coop. I moved their food and water out of the coop, and...
