Advice for a Farm Dog please. Scotch Collie, English Shepherd, Pyrenees, etc. ?

Hello! We live on three acres that is about 1/4 park like, 1/4 orchard, 1/4 wooded, 1/4 sunny. It has some gulleys and isn’t super level so fencing all three acres would be tricky, but not impossible. We currently just have chickens that we keep in a run. We have lots of hawks and three small...

Trying to find answers for recently deceased hen

I realize I should have posted in here for advice long before now, but alas. We had a chicken that had begun squeaking a couple weeks ago. She would squeak and shake her head a bit when she was eating. She was also a little raspy when breathing. We checked her crop and it seemed fine. She had...

Chicks hatching early Day 19 (buff Orpington chicks, Rhode Island Red mama)

Well we ended up with three healthy chicks. I was hoping for a better hatch rate, but I suppose for the hen and our first time I am counting it as mostly a success.

Chicks hatching early Day 19 (buff Orpington chicks, Rhode Island Red mama)

Thank you! That is good to know. I have a safe waterer and chick starter out. I got everything ready yesterday on "lock down" day thankfully!

Chicks hatching early Day 19 (buff Orpington chicks, Rhode Island Red mama)

Hello! This is my first experience with a Broody Hen. She’s a Rhode Island Red and in her own “nursery” area attached to the main run. I put the fertilized buff Orpington eggs under her on July 2 morning, so today- July 21- would be 19 days. We had an intense storm last night with tons of...

    Red in Poop

No changes in diet. They get occasional kitchen scraps that we always check about first. They’ve had cut fresh clover and oregano and thyme offered for foraging recently a couple of times each in the last week or two.
