Ended Official BYC Coop Page Contest #7

Here is the link to my coop. I actually posted this last year. I'm making more upgrades later this summer, but the girls are in and loving it. https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/my-first-coop-circ-du-poulet

    Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Whenever I isolate a bully, I typically do it for a few days. She has to sleep in the isolation pen too (just because I'm usually asleep when they get up). Then I'll let them all out together on a day that I watch them and intervene if necessary, I've had good success with that, but I have heard...

    Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I had to isolate a bully this morning. One of my new Swedish Flower Hens (let's call her Sophia), has been harassing the two Silver Laced Wyandottes (Emma and Eva). She'll be in timeout for a few days.

They're native to Sweden, lay extra large light brown eggs, and supposedly out produce Orpingtons. I just think they're beautiful! I wanted to add a few more hens to my mixed breed stock. I saw an ad onCraisglist for Splash Marans, but she sold out before I could get there. So I bought those...

No frost bite for my girls yet, although I did purchase some Vaseline in case in got really cold again. I have a nice roomy coop too that it not insulated, and has six windows for ventilation. When humidity is high outside, its high inside, but from what I can tell the shaving are still nice a dry.

How much are you paying for your seed? I use barley seed that's just under $15 for 50 pound bag. I sprout them in dollar store plastic bins that I add drainage too. I don't have a ton of chickens though, so that might be why it last so long. As for feed, I use scratch and peck, and it last a...

I plan to place a water heater in there to keep it from freezing, but no heat inside the coop itself. I don't provide supplemental light either, and don't really plan to. I'm using the deep litter method inside the coop. I will likely insulate the top of it better, since heat rises. We'll see...

I dont plan to heat it. Everything I've read so far says not to heat.

BRRRR! I placed a wind break over my run to help conserve some heat in there. I'm also making a DIY water heater this week. I really hope it doesn't snow anytime soon.

    Combining two flocks!!! :)

I need to try the water gun trick. I'm going to give it a shot the next time I see my bully girl on the attack! Thanks!

New hens won't come out of the coop??

I'm having a similar problem with the 3 new hens I added. I isolated the bully (my RR), and they have food and water in the coop, but unless I let everyone out to free range, they will not come out of the coop on their own. They don't run from me, but I wish they would come out and mingle with...
