I totally understand the need for the fence under you situation. Now for the the BEST chickens anybody can ever have, my wife just can not suck it up & eat the girls we raise. She's too close to them. I did trick her one time & cooked one night & she said that was the best chicken she ever had...
All's good with you. I don't really like culling my girls but it has to been done. I only have one roster & I believe that's all the Roos you should have. Now for the rain, my coop has 3' overhang on the 3 sides off my shied so mud isn't a issue.

I totally disagree with anything on the floor or ground. I 've been raising hens for over 8 years. We are organic, free range, & pastured. I have 63 hens that loves us as well we love them! My coop gives them 9 square ' per bird. I clean it out twice a week & put D.E. Down. We use milk cartons...
Help. We have 12 RIR & 12 Black Stars. This is their 3nd season & we are only getting 11 to 13 eggs per day! They are free range, feed heathy with fresh water. We have walked our farm high & low, so don't tell me they are laying else where.
Next problem, how in the world do we idenify which...
Okay, we have 12 RIR & 12 B Stars free ranged &. Love their house & area. Today only 13 big beautiful eggs. We don't think this is a very ratio. Can anybody give a good idea of why?
I have 24 brown layers that are going 2 seasons old. We are averaging only 12 to 13 eggs per day. We free range & feed heathy feed. My questions, is this normal or should they be laying more?
Help, I have an egg eater! How can you tell which chicken is eating the egg? I collect my eggs at least 4 times a day, this has only happened twice in the last 2months.
As for my 30 free range girls, after seeing a hawk above made me stop and think how to protect them a little better. I remembered seeing a TP polr type tent on here so we have started building a couple of out of old cedar trees. My girls LOVE them. I'm not even finished and they are helping me...
Ok thank
s. I'm going to try it again in a few. I just did'nt want them to hurt each other. I lost my fist flock of 30 and did not want anything to hurt this group of babies.
Their coop has a lot of room, I just haven't let them out in the run yet. So should I just open up their brooder at let them all try to get along with each other?
