I've got to change my notifications as I didn't get any for this group! So I'll catch up properly later. Hope everyone had a great xmas/NY. We've celebrated our new year with 3 isa brown pullets. Well, before that but officially out of quarantine for the new year. So far free ranging we've had...
Glad she arrived home!
Fizzybelle- nope no roosters in our council, although I know of one nearby as I hear him. Got the other results in and the black ones are boys too. So all 4 chicks will need to be rehomed. I promised the kids after the new bigger coop is built (all bought in prep for...
No I kept my first lot of chicks inside longer than they should have. They're 3yos and fine.
I have 4wkd olds and they visit outside duringb the day in a triangle rabbit hutch (gumtree bargain). I'm in Aus too and find the night is probably still too cold for them but now it's warming up...
Locknest - how is your chicken going? Any signs of improvement?
Silkiechick - cute bubba parrots. I love how weird baby parrots look. I have 2 male lorikeets so no babies for us.
Satay - hope she turns up soon. I hate it when I can't find the girls. Usually mine are off somewhere in the yard...
So you're right then. I worked out coop space and it'll got 7 not 9 like I originally said. Luckily we'll only have 6 maximum if all goes well with the chicks but I am pretty sure 2 are cockerals so won't be able to live here.
365x175cm for the run so worked out to be 68.36ft2 according to Google. I only know metrics. Our council says 6ft2 per chicken overall but being they free range a lot I was working on that and a bit more.
I guess so. I just think of how many people don't realise and do cram that many in there. Hubby would without even thinking. He thought I was being silly calculating how much space per chicken.
So being our 2 girls are going to be introduced to our chicks in a month we have got a new coop. It should arrive in 2 weeks! Depending on the gender of the chicks we will have anywhere from 6 to 2 (no cockerals allowed here) if that's the case we'll get some pol girls and having 2 coops will...
Sorry to hear about Smokey.
I'm thinking both my chicks are boys. I'm 99.9% sure Aileen is a boy and I'm thinking Rosy will be following soon. I'll find out this week definitely. If that's the case both will be rehomed I'm thinking my sex links are actually australorps and maybe 1 is a boy...
I can see that. She only goes for the pigeons, not the magpies live in our trees. She doesn't even give a sideways glance to our chickens but I still wouldn't trust her alone with them.
One of my girls is doing this too. I was blaming either our weird spring or henopause. She's a 2.5yo australorp x I think. She laid a soft shell Monday but nothing since. She's got oyster shell, plus calcium + vit d in the water. My other girl is laying every 2nd day on average
